June 6 marks one year since the occupying forces blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in southern Ukraine.<\/p>\n
UAnimals has reached out to the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Alliance, the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and other organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n
We urge these bodies to actively respond to the crimes of the aggressor country, primarily by facilitating their investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n
The explosion of the dam led to the death of fish, mollusks, and bird colonies, harmed national nature parks, and released chemical substances and wastewater into the Dnipro River and the Black Sea.<\/p>\n
The catastrophe jeopardized the operation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant: the plant’s cooling pond, which was filled by the reservoir, became critically low. To ensure stable operation, the pond must maintain a sufficient water level.<\/p>\n
Following the explosion, the water level dropped to a critical point. Both people and animals suffered: in June 2023, the flooding affected over 80 settlements.<\/p>\n
UAnimals calls on international organizations and governments to hold russia accountable in international courts.<\/span> \nLet’s not let the world forget the environmental crimes committed by the russian occupiers in Ukraine!<\/p>\n
