UAnimals is starting a fundraiser<\/a><\/span> to help drill wells in three animal shelters<\/span>: “Zoosimya” in the Kirovohrad region, “Novyi Svit” in Dnipropetrovsk, and “Myrolad” in Vinnytsia. These shelters either lack their own water source or experience constant disruptions in water supply. Each shelter needs large amounts of water: in addition to providing drinking water and bathing the animals, water is required for cleaning and food preparation.<\/p>\n

The “Myrolad” shelter in the village of Busha, Vinnytsia region, rehabilitates cows. Currently, there are five cows and as many bulls living there. “We are constantly on edge. In the morning, you turn on the tap\u2026 If there\u2019s water, we live<\/span>,” says shelter director Mykyta Drokin. “We have central water supply, but there are frequent pipeline failures,” the man continues. “The pipes are in critical condition, so the water is often unavailable for a day, two, or even three… We want to set up our own water supply system. We wash drinking bowls, containers where we store water, and sometimes do wet cleaning in the barns. We use over 500 liters of water per day.” The most important need is to give water to the animals. A cow drinks between 50 to 100 liters per day<\/span>, Mykyta explains. The situation is complicated by the fact that the site is located at the highest point in the village. Therefore, the pump power is often insufficient to supply water here, leaving the shelter without it.<\/p>\n

At “Zoosimya” in the Kirovohrad region, there are 100 dogs and 30 cats. The shelter constantly takes in evacuated animals. The head of the shelter, Tetiana Nelha, says, “We are in desperate need of water. There is a well in the village, but the water level has dropped significantly, so there isn’t much. Every day we wash the enclosures and quarantine boxes, and we wash the rugs we lay out for the dogs. The animals arrive from combat zones dirty, and we need to bathe them, which also requires water.<\/span> Our expenses are very high.”<\/p>\n

At the “Novyi Svit” shelter in Kryvyi Rih, there are 102 dogs, 148 cats, and goats. The eco-farm is currently selecting a new site, where a water source is needed. The previous site will be left for quarantined animals and cats, while healthy dogs and newcomers will live in the new location. “We definitely need a well there,” says eco-farm manager Ruslana Kulbida. “There are animals for whom we prepare porridge, so we need water. The kittens and puppies that arrive from the combat zones are all infested with parasites and exhausted. We cannot immediately treat them for parasites; we need to bathe them. The floors in the cat area need to be washed several times a day.<\/span> In short, water is the main thing we need at the new site.”<\/p>\n

The wells are planned to be drilled this fall.<\/p>\n
