In February<\/strong>, another animal-to-animal blood transfusion took place, made possible by the UAnimals Blood Donation Platform<\/strong>, where donors and recipients are matched. This time, the transfusion was needed for a cat named Murzilka<\/strong>, with a 4-year-old cat named Kasper <\/strong>(main photo)\u00a0acting as the donor.<\/p>\n

The request to find a donor for Murzilka was submitted by Rostyslav from Dnipro<\/strong>, who evacuates animals from frontline areas.
\n“A cat from Donetsk region arrived with leukemia, and after a blood test, it became clear that she needed a transfusion,”<\/em> Rostyslav explained.<\/p>\n

Anastasiia and her cat Kasper<\/strong> responded to the request. The two first met at the ‘Virnist’<\/strong> shelter in Dnipro back in 2021<\/strong>. As soon as the UAnimals Blood Donation Platform<\/strong> was launched, Anastasiia registered Kasper there. Later, however, she started to have doubts:
\n“I worried a lot, talked to veterinarians, friends, and family \u2014 but in the end, I decided that my cat could be a donor. If my cat ever needed a transfusion, I\u2019d want there to be kind and compassionate owners out there willing to help, too.”<\/em><\/p>\n

According to Anastasiia, the procedure wasn\u2019t easy, particularly the catheter insertion. However, Kasper soon got to enjoy his favorite treats, had a good nap, and quickly returned to his usual self. After all, he\u2019s an experienced donor<\/strong> \u2014 one of the first cats registered on the UAnimals platform<\/strong> \u2014 and this was actually his second time donating blood.<\/p>\n

The UAnimals Blood Donation Platform<\/strong> is a service that helps match donor animals with those in need of transfusions<\/strong>. Pet owners whose cats or dogs need a transfusion can submit a request, while potential donors can also register<\/strong> to be contacted when a match is found. In February alone, 9 new donors joined the platform<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
