At the beginning of April, two successful blood transfusions between cats took place thanks to the UAnimals Blood Donation Platform<\/a><\/span>. This platform was created to help guardians of animals in need of transfusions connect with guardians of potential donors<\/span> more easily.<\/p>\n

On April 5, blood was transfused to 8-year-old cat Babusia, who had been diagnosed with leukemia. Olha and her husband stepped up to help. \u201cThey were very kind and understanding people, for which I\u2019m truly grateful. Their cat had an unknown blood type, but they resolved the issue quickly, and the very next day our cat Babusia received the vital help she needed,\u201d<\/em> shared Serhii, Babusia\u2019s guardian.<\/p>\n

Donor Ozzy (main picture) had been found as a kitten near Kyiv\u2019s bypass road. \u201cHe was covered in oil or grease, maybe he had crawled under a car hood,\u201d Olha recalls. \u201cNow he\u2019s nearly 7 kilos of pure energy. He got through the donation incredibly calmly, without needing any sedatives, and bounced back to his usual active self quickly<\/span>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On April 7, a blood transfusion was also performed for a one-year-old cat named Busia, who suffers from anemia and is suspected of having FIP (feline infectious peritonitis, also known as feline coronavirus), according to his owner Nataliya.<\/p>\n

Busia\u2019s donor was a black cat named Koroleva (Queen). This feisty feline had several owners before finding her forever home with Tetiana, who also cares for seven other cats and a dog. \u201cThe procedure was tough \u2014 she has a strong character,\u201d said Tetiana. \u201cBut Koroleva is doing well now.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

As of today, the UAnimals platform has registered 449 potential donors from 79 cities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
