On March 29, veterinary ophthalmologist Bohdan Muzychuk performed the first surgical removal of cataracts from both eyes of the raccoon Lucky, who is under the care of the Wildlife Rescue Center of Natalia Popova and UAnimals in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Although Lucky will have some minor nearsightedness, the animal will finally be able to live normally and safely. The postoperative examination showed that the surgical intervention was successful. The raccoon tolerated anesthesia well, and his blood pressure and indicators were normal.<\/p>\n

Next is the rehabilitation process, for which Lucky will remain hospitalized at the veterinary clinic of Inna Vasilykivska under the supervision of doctors since March 29. Almost immediately after the operation, it became clear how different Lucky perceives the world with his eyesight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most difficult task now is to administer eye drops to a strong wild animal who has just seen the world and protests against any interference in their personal space. But we continue with their treatment, as recovery is impossible without this procedure.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the raccoon named Lucky was brought to the Wildlife Rescue Center from private ownership. It became clear that the animal had cataracts and could not see at all. The raccoon was constantly sniffing and very nervous, so it could not live normally and was at risk of injuring itself all the time.<\/p>\n

On March 17th, veterinary ophthalmologist Bohdan Muzychuk conducted a preoperative examination of the raccoon Lucky. Based on the results of the examination and the animal’s health condition, veterinarians made a decision to operate on the raccoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
