In January, we evacuated 216 animals from Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and even guinea pigs were taken from under fire to safer places. We also helped evacuate Khan the lion from Dnipropetrovsk region. He was freezing in an open enclosure. We also transported 60 animals from clinics to shelters and new families after treatment and rehabilitation.

Treatment and veterinary care

We paid for treatment and provided medication for 1,815 animals. This included operations, inpatient treatment, vaccinations, tests, and examinations. We spent over 2 million hryvnia. During a veterinary mission in Pavlohrad, we provided assistance to over 400 animals.

Over the course of a month, we delivered over 11 tons of food to shelters throughout Ukraine and to military personnel who care for animals in the combat zone. This allowed us to feed more than 5,600 animals.

We supported shelter reconstruction projects — 5,357 animals received more comfortable living conditions. These include medical trailers, new enclosures, insulation, generators, and doghouses.

In addition, more than 400 volunteers joined in various tasks: they distributed food and installed kennels in the front line, cleaned shelters, walked dogs, and helped after the flooding of one of the shelters in the Kyiv region.

Response to cruelty and work on legislation

In January, we filed nine reports of crimes involving cruelty to animals. At the same time, we worked on amendments to draft law No. 11328 on strengthening the protection of domestic animals — it has already passed its first reading and is now being prepared for its second. We also promoted an initiative to allow animals into establishments. The corresponding draft decision has already been registered with the Kyiv City Council.

The Humane Book Award

On January 30, the Humane Book 2025 Award was presented to authors of publications that foster empathy and responsibility in children. Three winners were recognized: Snow Ice Cream, My Friend the Snowbird, and The Lion Doesn’t Laugh at the Circus. A posthumous award was also presented for Vladimir Vakulenko’s Daddy’s Book.
