After an animal was evacuated from a frontline city, a person with a disability was also able to leave

A German Shepherd named Rem from Kostyantynivka has arrived to his family in Starokostiantyniv. After he was evacuated, his owner and immobile grandmother, who had stayed behind with him, were finally able to leave too.

Maryna from frontline Kostyantynivka contacted UAnimals after she had moved to Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytskyi region. Her German Shepherd Rem had stayed behind at home, along with Marina’s husband and her immobile mother-in-law.

Maryna had left for Starokostiantyniv to undergo treatment with her daughter, but returning was already too dangerous. Her family couldn’t leave because of the dog.

At the request of UAnimals, rescuers from the organization Save Animals Ukraine evacuated Rem. After that, Maryna’s husband and his mother were finally able to begin preparing to leave Kostyantynivka. And Rem’s long journey began.

With Save Animals Ukraine, the dog made it to Dnipro, and from there UAnimals rescuers brought him to Kyiv, where he received treatment at a veterinary clinic. UAnimals covered the costs for his stay, bloodwork, vaccinations, and antiparasitic treatments.

From the clinic, volunteers took the dog to Starokostiantyniv to reunite with Maryna.
Go for a walk, Remulya, my dear, my golden boy. Say hi to everyone,” says the woman in a video she sent to UAnimals.

Rem turned 4 years old this February.
“He’s very smart and kind, but he used to growl at people because he only knew us, his family,” Maryna shares. “I was afraid he wouldn’t recognize me. When the volunteers brought him to me, I was standing behind the cage. I said ‘Remochka…’ — and he perked up his ears. He recognized me by my voice!”

In a few days, Marina’s husband and mother-in-law will arrive in Starokostiantyniv.
