Animals Are Dying at Landfill Near Boryspil: UAnimals Demands City Council Take Action

On April 9, animal rescue volunteer Maryna Drabyk shared on her Facebook page that over 200 dogs live at the Hlyboke landfill near Boryspil. The UAnimals team decided to support the costs of temporary shelter, treatment, and sterilization for these animals.

“Here live, give birth, and die packs of abandoned dogs… as of today, we’re facing a catastrophe!” Maryna Drabyk wrote in her post.

The Boryspil City Council stated that there are actually fewer animals at the landfill and that they are under guardianship. Maryna Drabyk also shared a video clip from the City Council meeting held on April 14 on Facebook.

On April 16, a UAnimals representative, accompanied by Maryna Drabyk, visited the landfill to assess the number and condition of the animals. More than 200 dogs are surviving there. They have festering wounds, are limping, and live in burrows, filth, and garbage. There are also dead dogs on site.

Maryna Drabyk has already begun gradually transporting the dogs to clinics and temporary shelters. UAnimals has decided to help by covering the cost of treatment, sterilizations, and temporary housing for some of the dogs until they are adopted. The team will also help transport animals to clinics and shelters once the UAnimals evacuation vehicle returns from its mission in the East. In the meantime, UAnimals will deliver food for the dogs that remain at the landfill.

Additionally, UAnimals’ legal team has sent an official letter to the Boryspil City Council urging them to support the rescue efforts, particularly the sterilization of the animals. The letter also requests information about how the city is currently implementing its stray animal population control program.
