On April 17, the Boryspil City Council announced it would close the Hlyboke landfill, where many stray dogs live. UAnimals and the cross-party association Humane Country are calling for humane care of these animals. The dogs have already begun to be relocated, and starting today, UAnimals will also assist with this effort.
The executive committee of the Boryspil City Council stated on its Facebook page:
“The landfill, located in the Hlyboke Starosta District, not only has a negative impact on the environment but has also caused social tension for many years, as evidenced by numerous citizen appeals to the authorities requesting its closure.”
The Humane Country cross-party association prepared an appeal to the Boryspil City Council, demanding that the animals be treated humanely, namely:
- Approve a plan for evacuating the animals from the landfill;
- Involve volunteers in monitoring the assistance provided to the animals;
- Document the condition of the dogs and the work of contractors with photos and videos;
- Join the efforts to help the animals — catch, treat, sterilize, and rehome the dogs.
So far, the dogs are being relocated by volunteer Maryna Drabyk, with help from the local patrol police.
UAnimals is preparing to deliver food for the dogs. Starting April 18, it will also begin transporting the dogs to clinics and temporary shelters. The organization will cover the costs of treatment, sterilization, and temporary housing for some of the animals until they are adopted.
Reminder: A UAnimals representative visited the Hlyboke landfill on April 16 and saw many neglected dogs and puppies. Some were injured, and there were also dead animals. According to volunteer Maryna Drabyk, who is caring for the dogs, more than two hundred dogs are currently living at the landfill.
