In February, another animal-to-animal blood transfusion took place, made possible by the UAnimals Blood Donation Platform, where donors and recipients are matched. This time, the transfusion was needed for a cat named Murzilka, with a 4-year-old cat named Kasper (main photo) acting as the donor.
The request to find a donor for Murzilka was submitted by Rostyslav from Dnipro, who evacuates animals from frontline areas.
“A cat from Donetsk region arrived with leukemia, and after a blood test, it became clear that she needed a transfusion,” Rostyslav explained.

Anastasiia and her cat Kasper responded to the request. The two first met at the ‘Virnist’ shelter in Dnipro back in 2021. As soon as the UAnimals Blood Donation Platform was launched, Anastasiia registered Kasper there. Later, however, she started to have doubts:
“I worried a lot, talked to veterinarians, friends, and family — but in the end, I decided that my cat could be a donor. If my cat ever needed a transfusion, I’d want there to be kind and compassionate owners out there willing to help, too.”
According to Anastasiia, the procedure wasn’t easy, particularly the catheter insertion. However, Kasper soon got to enjoy his favorite treats, had a good nap, and quickly returned to his usual self. After all, he’s an experienced donor — one of the first cats registered on the UAnimals platform — and this was actually his second time donating blood.

The UAnimals Blood Donation Platform is a service that helps match donor animals with those in need of transfusions. Pet owners whose cats or dogs need a transfusion can submit a request, while potential donors can also register to be contacted when a match is found. In February alone, 9 new donors joined the platform.
