Doberman Luna became a donor for Pekingese Bonnie. The transfusion took place in Lviv on April 25. The guardians of both dogs found each other on the UAnimals blood donation platform.
A 4-year-old Lviv dog Bonnie was bitten by a tick. This triggered a condition in which the dog needed a blood transfusion. Viktoriya responded with a dog named Luna. Thanks to the transfusion, Bonnie’s condition improved somewhat – he even started wagging his tail.
“He became a little more active. He started drinking water, but he still doesn’t eat. We go to the IV every day,” says Halyna, the guardian’s sister.
Luna is the same age as Bonnie. “I took her from the shelter when she was three and a half years old,” said Viktoriya, Luna’s guardian. — I planned to take an adult (and large) dog, because I know that this is a category of animals that are not often taken into a family. They already have a formed behavior, character, unknown previous experience. But I was ready for anything. ” Victoria says that it was one of the best decisions in her life.

According to her, the procedure for Luna went quite smoothly, but at first the dog was offended: she did not understand what was happening. She had to be injected with a sedative. However, the same day Luna returned to her usual active life, says Victoria: “She chased squirrels and played with the children in the yard. And the next morning she woke me up at seven (on a day off!) because she wanted to go for a walk. She is very strong.”
The UAnimals blood donation platform exists so that potential donors and animals in need of transfusion can find each other more easily. Guardians and guardians of animals in need of donated blood submit applications. And people whose cats or dogs can donate blood respond to them. More details are directly on the platform page.
