Police Identify Dog Killer in Rivne Region

The Main Directorate of Police in Rivne Oblast has identified the individual seen in a video killing a dog with a firearm. The perpetrator turned out to be a 42-year-old man who is already in a pre-trial detention center for previous crimes.

On April 14, police discovered a video on a local Telegram channel showing a man shooting a dog in the head with a firearm while holding it on a leash. The footage quickly spread across social media. Upon learning about the incident, UAnimals’ legal team immediately filed a report with the police.

On the morning of April 15, the Main Directorate of the National Police of Rivne region announced that criminal investigators had identified the individual likely involved in the dog’s killing. He was found to be a 42-year-old resident of Rivne district, currently held in a detention facility for previous offenses including unlawful imprisonment and attempted murder. Police stated that the crime against the dog, captured on video, occurred back in 2021.

The case has been added to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (animal cruelty) and Article 300 (production of materials promoting violence and cruelty).

On April 15, the Ministry of Environmental Protection released a statement: “Our position is clear — zero tolerance for cruelty to animals. Such brutality must not go unpunished.”
