The new capsule clothing collection “Shadows of the Waves” from the charity brand Animalism by UAnimals draws attention to how dolphins suffer from Russian aggression. The collection includes clothing and accessories featuring dolphin imagery. All items are produced by a local manufacturer, and all profits go toward helping animals.
Fans of the brand, both new and returning, can look forward to:
- an oversized T-shirt with a dolphin voice soundwave graphic;
- a long-sleeve shirt with fading dolphin silhouettes;
- a scarf;
- a metal dog-tag-style pendant;
- socks and knee-highs with dolphin prints;
- a mug where dolphins appear when filled with hot liquid.
“We decided to dedicate this new collection to dolphins to highlight that these animals also suffer and die as a result of war,” says Animalism director Anastasiia Yurko. “The collection is called ‘Shadows of the Waves’ because dolphins are dying and essentially disappearing for a number of reasons, including the war. According to scientists, accurate statistics are not and cannot be available until the fighting ends. But if ecocide is not stopped, dolphins may literally become only shadows in the waves.”
During the war, dolphins suffer due to missile launches from surface and submarine vessels. Even failed launches, when rockets fall into the sea, pollute the water with fuel and other chemicals. These marine mammals suffer from chemical contamination and acoustic trauma caused by Russian radar. The fish that dolphins feed on also react to unusual vibrations and flee to other parts of the sea. Dolphins follow them and can become entangled in fishing nets, often fatally.
