On December 10, the humanitarian movement UAnimals, in partnership with the organization KLYCH, held a campaign “Nature Condemns russia for Ecocide”. In three US national parks, the activists temporarily placed banners with photos depicting the consequences of russia’s ecocide in Ukraine. While visiting the parks, tourists from all over the world will remember russia’s crimes.
As part of the campaign, a banner with images by Anastasia Meteleva was put in Calaveras Big Trees State Park in California. Another with pictures by Andriy Yakymenko was put in Arizona’s Saguaro National Park. In addition, a banner featuring a picture taken by Vlada and Konstantin Liberov was put in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
“We wanted to show the contrast between the preserved nature of the United States and the ravaged nature in Ukraine. If the world does not hear the Ukrainians, let it hear the nature. The biodiversity of Ukraine needs our protection. The planet itself condemns russia for its crimes against nature. Will people?” says Olga Chevganyuk, Head of the International Department of UAnimals.
A reminder: After the full-scale invasion, the UAnimals team is involved in rescuing all kinds of animals from the war. Activists evacuate, feed and treat them. In addition, we work to rebuild shelters and help natural parks. UAnimals has also launched the international project #StopEcocideUkraine because russia must be held accountable for its environmental crimes!
