UAnimals and Synevyr Park Are Building a Veterinary Center for Bears

In the Synevyr National Nature Park in Zakarpattia, a modular house for bears is nearing completion. UAnimals, along with its partners—Humane Society International—helped partially fund the building materials.

The house is being constructed on the grounds of the Brown Bear Rehabilitation Center in the village of Synevyr. Currently, 37 bears live there, having been rescued from former owners who kept them in terrible conditions. Some were taken from circuses and entertainment venues, while others were confiscated from smugglers.

For example, a bear named Benya was kept by performers who forced him to dance on a hot surface. When Benya was brought to the Center, he was thin and exhausted. Even now, he occasionally shows signs of stereotypy—jumping from side to side, as his former owners had trained him.

Benya and the other bears now live in semi-free conditions. This year, they gained access to a new veterinary center, which is insulated and divided into five compartments. In addition to bears, the center can also care for wolves or lynxes.

Support the work of UAnimals—together we can care for even more animals!
