Near Zbarazh in the Ternopil region, combine harvester operators tied a pregnant pig by its legs to a tractor and dragged it across a field. This was reported on Facebook by Ternopil resident Inna Melnychuk.
According to her, unborn piglets fell out of the tied animal. When released, the pig tried to escape on severed legs but ultimately could not and died. Inna also posted videos showing men abusing pigs.
UAnimals filed a complaint with the Main Department of the Police in the Ternopil region, demanding a criminal investigation into the incident.
Under Part 3 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code, violence against animals committed with extreme cruelty is punishable by 5 to 8 years of imprisonment.
Members of the inter-factional parliamentary group “Humane Country” have also prepared an appeal to the police, requesting that those responsible be held accountable.
Employees of Continental Farmers Group Ukraine, the company whose combine operators Inna Melnychuk accused of animal cruelty, stated that they are conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
No animal—domestic, wild, or farmed—should suffer due to human cruelty.
