On September 16-17, UAnimals volunteers will simultaneously gather in five nature reserves to clean up litter that has accumulated due to human negligence and russian-caused ecocide.
The Cleanup March will take place in the national parks of Khortytsia Island in Zaporizhzhia, Holosiivskyi National Park in Kyiv, Uzhanskyi National Park in Zakarpattia, “Hutsulshchyna” National Park in Ivano-Frankivsk, and “Buzkyi Hrad” National Park in Mykolaiv.
Endangered species living in these parks suffer from the litter – it maims and sometimes kills them. Fire salamanders, lynxes, mountain goats, deer, bears, noble deer, and other animals, along with their habitats, require protection.
“20% of Ukraine’s nature conservation areas have been affected by the war. It’s currently impossible to help reserves in occupied or conflict zones. Therefore, we concentrate our efforts where possible to safeguard rare animal species throughout the country,” says UAnimals’ founder Oleksandr Todorchuk.
By cleaning up litter, we are saving animals and resisting the destruction of nature caused by russia! For instance, when the russians blew up the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, the water level in the Dnipro River dropped, exposing a heap of garbage on the surface in the Khortytsia area that had been hidden underwater.
How to get involved in the cleanup?
All organizational details will be available in our chatbot for volunteers. Please follow the link https://march.uanimals.org/ and click “I want to join the Cleanup March.” Then follow the five steps described on the page in the provided link.
We encourage individuals and companies to self-organize and participate in the Cleanup March outside of UAnimals’ designated locations. You can clean up on September 16 and 17 in your nearest park or any location you love to visit. Share all photos and videos from such events using the hashtag #StopEcocideUkraine and tag UAnimals.
Since 2017, UAnimals has been organizing nationwide marches for animal rights to change public opinion and legislation on animal welfare.
UAnimals consistently opposes russian ecocide: we initiated the #StopEcocideUkraine campaign, which included dozens of rallies on all six continents worldwide. Additionally, we appealed to the UN to finally recognize russian actions as ecocide.
