REPORT FOR 2022

From February 24 until the end of 2022, we, the UAnimals team:
● provided all regions of Ukraine with fodder. 592 172 kilograms of animal feed were sent: 348 954 kilograms for cats and dogs, 243 218 kilograms for pets, birds, and rodents;

● fed 126 465 animals, including wild and domestic ones;

● helped with money to keep 177 987 animals;

● sterilized 7 460 animals in 41 cities and towns of Ukraine, including temporarily occupied territories;

● evacuated more than 1 000 animals from dangerous zones. Among them: dogs, cats, birds, tigers, lions, bears, camels, horses, mouflons, alpacas, cows, raccoons, badgers, foxes, wolves, dogs, cats, donkeys, sheep, goats, nutria, snakes, salamanders, porcupines, proboscis, lemur, etc. More than 400 of them we managed to transfer abroad later;

● about 7 tons of fodder were delivered to the de-occupied territories of Kharkiv and Kherson Oblasts, as well as to Donetsk Oblast; participated in the treatment of more than 120 animals throughout the country;

● rebuilt several shelters that hostilities had damaged: the Step to Animals sterilization center in Chernihiv, and the Gostomel animal shelter. We also helped with the repair of the Dnipropetrovsk equestrian farm, the shelter Give a Chance in Sloviansk, and the shelter Friend in Kramatorsk;

● our legal department sent more than 50 appeals to state institutions, about 30 statements to law enforcement agencies on the fact of cruelty to animals, about 10 petition letters, provided consultations on animal protection issues that were addressed to the hotline, concluded more than 20 contracts with partners;

● registered and achieved adoption in the first reading of the draft law on banning fireworks together with the Humane Country inter-fractional Association;

● started the international information campaign #StopEcocideUkraine, within the framework of which we prepared a draft appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to international organizations on the condemnation of russia’s crimes against the environment and a draft Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the recognition of ecocide;

● together with other civil society activists and organizations managed to freeze draft law #8150, which would have allowed the breeding of geese and ducks for foie gras, butchering, browning, skinning, smoking, dismemberment, etc. until their heartbeat stops, as well as mass killing homeless animals. Instead, a new draft law without controversial clauses will be developed and registered;

● supported more than a dozen vegan initiatives that provide food for our soldiers and displaced persons;

● supported the Askania-Nova Biosphere Reserve: we transferred 385 620 hryvnias, which made it possible to provide 1 000 ungulates with hay for the whole year; helped to purchase 20 tons of cabbage; collected money for wintering housing repairs for 160 animals;

● held a fundraising for the Tuzlivski Lymany National Natural Park which was shelled from the Black Sea at the beginning of the full-scale war. The park needed money to clean up the channels that connect the estuary to the sea. Water that moves the sea, freshwater, and amphibian animals should flow easily through these channels. Previously, such channels were formed naturally, but due to the actions of the occupier, this process slowed down, so now the park has to clear the waterways with the help of special equipment;

● helped purchase vitamin and mineral supplements for 23 American bison of the Yelanetsk Steppe National Park;

● helped to buy fodder for 38 red-listed bison in the Skolivski Beskydy National Park;

● supported the Halytskyi National Park of the Ivano-Frankivsk region and provided assistance for the construction of new quarantine enclosures for ungulates;

● helped to purchase 3 tons of corn for 150 wild roe deer, 100 wild boars, and 200 hares that live on the territory of the Buzky Grad National Park of Mykolaiv Oblast;

● supported the Hetmanskyi National Park in the Sumy region and provided funds for the purchase of 4 000 tons of corn for the winter feeding of 250 wild pigs and 70 roe deer living in the park;

● helped the Hutsulshchyna National Park: bought fodder for feeding 27 deer, 130 roe deer, and 10 Hutsul horses;

● purchased and delivered 10 tons of hay to the Rifugio Italia Kj2 animal shelter in Kyiv Oblast, 13.5 tons of hay to the Zdrave Zhyttia shelter in Vinnytsia Oblast, and 5 250 kg of hay to the Vuhlyk shelter in Mykolaiv Oblast, providing them with hay for the entire cold season;

● collected and transferred money for the repair of the floor in the Kherson Shelter for animals;

● began rebuilding the Best Friend veterinary premises and building a boiler for 1 700 000 hryvnias in partnership with Suziria group;

● helped with the construction of aviaries, booths, sterilization boxes, and a wintering center for nine shelters;

● supported the public organization Every Animal, the vegan establishment Lviv vegan kitchen in Lviv, and the vegan restaurant Loopci in Kyiv to prepare lunches and deliver vegan and vegetarian food for our military;

● permanently partnered with Josera, Royal Canin, Masterzoo, Petslike, and Humanitarian Post of Ukraine;

● attracted 50 new partners;

● launched a cool initiative with Animal-ID – 65 four-legged animals received their QR passports;

● there was an international star collaboration with the British band Bring Me The Horizon for a drum skin raffle with autographs of the stars. The proceeds were donated to help animals;

● partnered — Iguverse: while playing in this application, earned bonuses can be transferred to save animals;

● the warmest and most famous cooperation with robota.ua’s partner — Furry Employees, thanks to which other companies employed our furry employees;

● thanks to cooperation with the partner MasterZoo and Visa with Paw of Care more than 500 000 hryvnias were collected for animals affected by the war;

● completed a joint initiative with Uklon and Patron the dog, during which Uklon users collected 330 000 hryvnias for animals through the Donate option in the application;

● launched and closed the fund-raising Preparation of Shelters for Winter in the amount of 749 550 hryvnias for the needs of ten shelters;

● provided rescue service animals with ammunition and money for fuel for trips;

● together with Silpo, launched Psychological Support from Animals on the Silpo hotline;

● together with Tina Karol and the Dzvinochok choir, for the 100th anniversary of the world-famous song Carol of the Bells, released an updated version of the composition to the tune of Mykola Leontovych Carol of the Ecocide. The track was created as part of the #StopEcocideUkraine campaign to draw attention to russia’s environmental crimes during the war;

● launched the Oleksiy “Lev” Kysylishin’s grant and helped six shelters with their needs;

● launched a new UAnimals Kids project for children to help them understand and learn how to care for animals, what to do and what not to do, where to turn in different situations;

● held Days of children’s music for animals;

● the legendary dog Patron, the “employee” of the State Emergency Service, was accepted into the team;

● enlisted the support of Ukrainian stars who collected money to help animals affected by the war;

● participated in the creation of a film about volunteer heroes Nine Lives;

● world-class stars supported us: Tom Felton – the performer of the role of Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter, the performer in the role of Sauron in the trilogy The Lord of the Rings Sala Baker, the American actress Kim Basinger, Adrian Paul – the performer of the role of the Highlander – Duncan McLeod, Ernie Hudson – the performer of the role of Winston Zeddmore in Ghostbusters;

● the march to save animals from the war in Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian online march to save animals from the war were held in Warsaw;

● took part in a meeting in Istanbul and Rotterdam in support of Ukraine and to draw attention to the suffering of animals as a result of the war;

● opened two photo exhibitions, Animals and War in Ukraine in The Hague and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, designed to highlight to the world the suffering and survival of animals in the realities of a full-scale war in Ukraine;

● autographs of Leonardo DiCaprio and Mahatma Gandhi were raffled off;

● as part of the #StopEcocideUkraine international campaign, we held an action on Wall Street in New York, where a russian missile “arrived”; a meeting-nursery in London with a call to punish russia for committing ecocide crimes; the action in Chicago Stop ruSSia — #StopEcocideUkraine and UAnimals activists held individual pickets around the world;

● started a partnership with Greenpeace and Ecodia and work on issues of ecocide with the international organization StopEcocideInternational;

● instead of the traditional New Year’s tree, a mock-up of a russian rocket was installed at the representative office of Ukraine in Washington as a reminder of the conditions in which Ukrainians are forced to celebrate the holidays this year;

● raised money for the Nataliya Popova and UAnimals Wild Animals Rescue Center: for the operation of an evacuated lioness with a complicated birth, treatment of two evacuated lion cubs who later went abroad, for a generator, and for moving lions and a bear abroad;

All this work would not have been possible without the caring people who donated money to us over ten months of a full-scale war: without the organizations that helped us with humanitarian goods or cooperated with us. After all, we would not have done any of this if it were not for our soldiers who are on guard 24 hours a day, liberating our territories, saving lives, and paving the way to victory – we are very grateful to them!
