ABOUT THIS FUNDRAISER

The shelter run by the organization “Tobias. Animals of Kherson” has to relocate 82 dogs from the frontline areas of Kherson region to Mykolaiv region. So far, they have transported 61 dogs to the new location, while 21 more are still waiting to be evacuated.

“Animals were under constant threat, and staff members had to walk to the shelter every day to feed them and provide basic care”, the team says.

However, the area where the animals have been relocated lacks proper enclosures for the dogs. That is why we have launched a fundraiser for 356,000 hryvnia (≈7,960 dollars). With these funds, we will purchase and deliver 10 enclosures. They will look approximately like this:

In the enclosures, the dogs will be able to adapt to their new surroundings, experience less stress, and avoid injuring themselves or one another. Enclosures are also needed for the evacuation itself to transport the animals safely.

The shelter is home to many dogs with a traumatic background: many of them have a past of abandonment, neglect, injuries and abuse. Almost all of them were evacuated from frontline regions.

One of them is Misha. The dog was found in Burhunka, a village in Kherson region that had been almost completely destroyed by russia’s attcks. He had lost most of his fur and was covered in wounds. Due to a concussion, Misha nearly lost his hearing. Despite everything he had been through, he gradually began to recover.

Last year, Misha and a shelter volunteer survived a drone attack while out on a walk. Injured, Misha panicked and ran away, but four days later he found his way back home. According to the shelter team, his hearing is now slowly returning.

Another resident of the shelter is Boy. When he was found, the dog could barely stand on his feet. He would not let people come near him and growled at anyone who tried to approach. The right side of his body was badly injured, likely because he had been thrown by a blast wave. Boy also suffered from hearing problems and an intestinal disease.

Today, Boy is doing much better. He enjoys walks, runs around, and has learned to trust people again.

Please support the fundraiser for dog enclosures for the animals cared for by Tobias. Animals of Kherson. Together, we can help these dogs settle into their new home and give other animals near the frontline a chance at safety.
