Fundraiser to Provide Shelters with Access to Water

Two Ukrainian animal shelters have been left without water. In the summer heat, this poses a critical threat to the animals and makes daily care for them nearly impossible.

We are raising UAH 252,500 (≈$5,643) to drill a well for Dobre Sertse shelter in Kirovohrad region and to purchase a new pump for Forsaken Angel shelter in Khmelnytskyi region.

At Dobre Sertse shelter the well has dried up. To water 321 dogs and 92 cats, cook their food, and clean the enclosures, the staff has to transport water from the city every day.

At Forsaken Angel shelter, which is home to 190 dogs and 6 cats, the pump that drew water from the well burned out due to shelling and power surges. Now the water for the animals has to be carried by hand.

Instead of devoting time to treating and rehabilitating their residents, the staff at both shelters has to spend their time and energy on finding and transporting water.

For example, at Dobre Sertse shelter, they are currently trying to help Ellie the dog recover. She was found on the side of the road — completely exhausted. She could barely walk, was critically underweight, and had many signs of old injuries. Ellie is now recovering under the shelter staff’s care.

They also nursed a cat named Snizhok back to health. He was found emaciated, with an injured paw. Snizhok was very afraid of people: he growled, hissed, and lunged whenever anyone tried to approach.

The shelter staff treated the cat and helped him trust people again.
