A cat named Bob was found on the side of the road with three of his paws cut off. His wounds were festering, and the animal was fading before our eyes.

The exhausted cat was urgently taken to the vets. He faced long weeks of treatment, surgeries, and procedures. Finally, Bob recovered, though he was left with only one paw.

The cat ended up at Konotop Animal Protection Organization Animals’ Friends shelter. There, he is loved and cared for, and they even bought a special wheelchair so that Bob could walk.

“We understand that Bob doesn’t have much chance of finding a home. He’ll probably have to stay with us forever, at the shelter. But we still believe in miracles,” say the shelter staff.

An emaciated, skinny dog ran after a car of volunteers who were taking animals out of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region and kept barking. When people tried to catch the animal, she started to run away. The volunteers ran after the dog, and she led them to her puppies. Five of her babies were lying in a ruined yard among rubble and rags.

One puppy hadn’t survived — crushed by a concrete slab. The volunteers took the rest and brought them to Pegasus shelter.

“She’s extremely exhausted and has almost no milk — it’s hard to imagine how these babies survived,” say the shelter staff.

Another cat was hit by a car. He has a broken jaw, bruised lungs, two fractured ribs, and a knocked-out eye. Due to a traumatic brain injury, he also lost vision in his other eye. He has been living at Cathouse shelter for two months, where he is undergoing treatment.
