A horse clinic has opened at the “Pegas” shelter in Dnipropetrovsk region

In the “Pegas” shelter, a new facility has opened where horses will be cared for and treated. It was built thanks to donations from UAnimals and the support of the Humane Society International fund. The construction cost around 2 million hryvnias and took three months to complete. The necessary funds were raised over six months.

The clinic will treat horses that have been given a second chance at life—rescued from war or slaughter. These animals suffer from respiratory, limb, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer, and require treatment and lifelong care.

“Treating a horse is a very complex and costly process. Typically, a veterinarian comes to the stable where the horse lives to perform all necessary procedures. Alternatively, the horse is transported to a clinic, which is an even more complicated process. The new facility provides specialized conditions for horse treatment. It’s like a hospital for people, where they are cared for and treated until they recover or their condition improves. Similar conditions are available for horses at the Pegas facility,” explains UAnimals.

The new clinic will significantly improve the lives of many horses, such as Lubasha, a mare who struggles to breathe due to dust and moisture in the general stable. The facility has ventilation that will help Lubasha avoid asthma attacks.

Another resident, Camilla, a mare from Lysychansk, survived a missile strike. A fragment injured her tendon, leaving her permanently disabled. The clinic provides special flooring to prevent further injury when she stands up.

In addition to 30 horses, the “Pegas” shelter is home to over 1,500 domestic, farm, and wild animals. You can read more about their lives in the UAnimals media report.
