Plus a Pumpkin, Minus a Ghost: UAnimals Launches Virtual Pumpkin Sales to Make Homeless Animals Visible

For Halloween, UAnimals is inviting everyone to buy a virtual pumpkin, with all proceeds going toward microchipping homeless animals during veterinary missions, evacuations, and sterilization efforts.

An unchipped animal is like a “ghost”—these dogs and cats can’t be accurately counted. Microchipping helps with tracking, which in turn helps ensure that adequate resources are allocated for them.

During microchipping, a sterile, biocompatible glass capsule is implanted in the animal’s shoulder area. Inside this capsule is a silicon chip with a unique digital code. The microchip remains entirely passive and doesn’t emit anything until briefly activated by a scanner. This digital code is assigned to the animal for life.

The code is entered into electronic databases for microchipped animals, containing information about the animal’s birth date, color, vaccinations, and contact details of guardians, if available.

The Ukrainian government plans to introduce a Unified State Register of Domestic Animals, integrating data from various microchip databases. This registry will help monitor scheduled vaccinations and support effective decision-making in this area.

Each virtual pumpkin costs 85 UAH, and you can buy as many as you like. These virtual veggies won’t spoil like real ones after Halloween!
