The man who beat a dog in the village of Chabany, Kyiv region, has filed an appeal. Previously, the Kyiv-Sviatoshynskyi District Court found him guilty and imposed a fine of 3,400 UAH. The dog was confiscated and placed in a shelter for permanent care. Now, the former owner seeks to overturn the court ruling—if successful, he won’t have to pay the fine, and the dog will be returned to him.
The appeal will be reviewed by the Kyiv Court of Appeal. Its decision will be final and cannot be challenged. A hearing date has not yet been set.
On February 24, volunteer Anna contacted UAnimals for help. She witnessed the man beating the dog and dragging it by a chain. UAnimals’ legal team filed a police report. Upon arriving at the scene, an officer issued an administrative protocol. The nine-year-old nearly blind dog, named Baron, was removed from the owner and taken to a shelter in Kyiv.
