The Zboriv District Court delivered a verdict for three men who had abused wild boars. The offenders were sentenced to 5 years in prison, but instead of imprisonment, they were given a 1-year probation period.
The men made a plea deal with the Berezhany District Prosecutor’s Office. The defendants admitted their guilt, cooperated with the investigation, and compensated for ecological damages amounting to 319,262 UAH, according to the agreement. Based on this deal, they were spared actual punishment.
Recall: On February 2, Ternopil resident Inna Melnychuk posted a video on social media showing employees of “Continental Farmers Group” and two contractor workers abusing wild boars in a field near Zbarazh. She also revealed that the combine operators tied a pregnant sow’s legs to a tractor and dragged her across the field.
The Criminal Code of Ukraine provides for up to 8 years in prison for such crimes (Part 3, Article 299). However, almost all cases of animal cruelty in Ukraine end with verdicts where offenders receive a suspended sentence.
