A Welshman takes on a marathon to raise money for animals in Ukraine

33-year-old Dan Mathews from Wales has created a fundraiser on the UAnimals festive platform to collect funds for Ukrainian animals, pledging to run the Barcelona Marathon on March 10th.

After the war broke out, I was searching the ways to donate, and I care very much particularly for animals,—Dan says.—Just the thought of animals being in danger makes me very upset. So I created the fundraiser. The work you guys do is incredible, helping animals and keeping them alive, providing food. I just wanted to support this in any way I could”.

Dan learned about UAnimals from his mother’s Facebook because he does not have social media. The first to donate to the fundraiser were his mother and friends. During the marathon, Dan hopes to raise more money.

For Dan, the marathon is both a personal challenge and a mission. He suffers from asthma, so running is not easy for him. However, Dan is preparing diligently and recently completed a half marathon. He will travel to Barcelona with his dad. The men will run the distance wearing T-shirts with the UAnimals’ logo.

Dan currently lives in London because he has a job there. At home in Wales, he has two dogs: the calm Poppy and the more energetic Jock.

A week after the marathon, Dan will celebrate his 34th birthday. “This holiday fundraiser is also a birthday present to myself,”  he says.

Everyone can open a fundraiser for their special event on the UAnimals holiday platform. Join in — this way, your holiday will become even more special.
