450 people gathered for the UAnimals Spring Cleanup March to clear natural locations of litter. Volunteers cleaned up in these national natural parks:
– “Holosiivsky” in Kyiv;
– “Roztochchia” in Lviv region;
– “Karmelyukove Podillya” in Vinnytsia region;
– “Khortytsia” in Zaporizhzhia;
– “Hutsulshchyna” in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Together, the volunteers collected 19.5 tons of garbage.
They removed 10 tons of waste from Holosiivsky Park, 4 tons from Hutsulshchyna Park, 2 tons each from Khortytsia and Karmelyukove Podillya parks, and 1.5 tons from Roztochchia.
The volunteers found many strange things in nature: in Holosiivsky Park, there was a whole wardrobe, even with high-heeled shoes. On Khortytsia, they collected a lot of rusty iron and tires. However, most often, glass bottles and plastic remnants — tableware and various packaging left after picnics — ended up in garbage bags.
Employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS) participated in cleaning at all locations, and the process was organized with the help of workers of the national natural parks. Volunteers came with relatives and friends, and there were even entire work collectives. People also met and socialized on site. The action in Kyiv was the most massive — 150 volunteers joined it. Slightly fewer people were on Khortytsia — 120.
While cleaning, volunteers on Khortytsia encountered a green lizard and a marsh turtle, in Holosiivsky Park – earth toads, and in Roztochchia, they noticed shells from bird eggs. Volunteers hope that after the cleanup, there will be less unnecessary things for all these animals in their natural environment.
