Four kittens and a young cat have recovered from feline calicivirus and panleukopenia virus thanks to the donations UAnimals received for their treatment, totaling over 100,000 hryvnias.
Calicivirus is a virus that, if not treated, can be fatal, affecting the eyes and later the respiratory organs of the infected animal. Panleukopenia is a highly contagious acute viral feline disease that leads to intoxication, fever, and gastrointestinal problems.
Both diseases were diagnosed in the cats that the UAnimals team evacuated from Kramatorsk, Donetsk, in November. Therefore, they spent more than two weeks in stationary treatment and quarantine to avoid infecting other animals.
Afterward, they were taken in by the Kotohata shelter in Kyiv, managed by Katerina Ilchenko.
“One of the kittens had a relapse, and he had to go to the clinic again. Also, all five had ringworm after the illness, so Kuzmich still has bald ears,” says Katerina.
Currently, all the animals are healthy. Two white-coloured kittens have already found homes, while the others from the litter are still waiting for adoption.
Every life is worth saving, whether it’s a big lion or a small kitten.
