On December 21, Minister of Environmental Protection Ruslan Strilets and his team organized a meeting with representatives of environmental public organizations. Olga Chevganyuk, head of the international department of UAnimals, joined the meeting.
“The eighth point of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Peace Formula is environmental security. It is crucial for civil society to unite with the state on environmental issues, and strengthen its expertise. UAnimals, for the second year in a row, rescues animals from war and systematically helps national natural parks in Ukraine. We are ready to continue our efforts to prevent the extinction of entire species and the destruction of ecosystems due to russian invasion,” commented Olga Chevganyuk during the meeting.
The meeting primarily discussed key reforms in the field of environmental protection and European integration. Specifically, the necessary changes in climate policy, environmental monitoring, waste management, environmental control, prevention of industrial pollution, sustainable water resource management, and forest policy were discussed. They also considered topics such as:
- Estimation of environmental damage due to war.
- Adoption of the law on Emerald Network territories.
- Environmental education.
- Interaction between public organizations and government institutions.
- Digitization as one of the key challenges.
“Thank you to all environmental public organizations that help the Ministry of Environment with their feedback and recommendations. This is not our last meeting. It is crucial that we do not stop and unite our efforts,” said Ruslan Strilets at the meeting.
