On December 10, International Animal Rights Day, Liudmyla Smolyar, Head of the Communications Department at UAnimals gave a speech at America House Lviv about the organization’s humanitarian movement. Those who were interested in learning about UAnimals’ activities attended the live event. Additionally, the American House team hosted an online broadcast on their YouTube channel.
Liudmyla discussed how UAnimals aids animals during the full-scale war, including evacuations from frontline regions, collaboration with shelters, procurement of food and medicine, and funding surgeries. She highlighted that thanks to a specially equipped vet-mobile, UAnimals has sterilized over 25,000 stray animals in frontline areas since the beginning of the invasion.
“I take great pride in this project because it has long-lasting benefits. Providing food for animals may offer temporary relief, but sterilizing them prevents thousands of stray animals from being born. I am also proud that we can provide this service in towns and villages with limited to no access to veterinary care,” explained Liudmyla.
The next initiative presented by Liudmyla was building the volunteer community through a chatbot. The organization aims to engage volunteers with meaningful and interesting tasks that correspond with their skills.
Liudmyla also provided insights into the legal department of UAnimals. The lawyers contribute to the development of essential animal protection legislation, offer legal advice on animal rights violations, and file police reports for high-profile cases in the realm of animal welfare.
In her closing remarks, Liudmyla emphasized that UAnimals accomplishes its projects thanks to the support of caring individuals, with up to 80% of donations coming from extraordinary Ukrainians concerned about animal welfare.
