The police confiscated a rare bird from a vendor on OLX

A black Altai lark, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine with a “vulnerable” status, was being sold on the OLX website. The seller kept it in an unheated hangar, in a cage soiled with feces, and without water.

UAnimals learned about this from representatives of the Dog Help Ukraine initiative, who sought advice from UAnimals’ lawyers.

Dog Help Ukraine, along with the URSA organization, arranged a meeting with the vendor and notified the Brovary District Police Department about it. At the point of sale, the police drew up a protocol under Article 88-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses for violating the procedures for the purchase or sale of animals or plants. The punishment entails a fine ranging from 510 to 1,700 hryvnias.

After the protocol was drawn up, the black Altai lark was confiscated and taken to a veterinary clinic. There, it was diagnosed with cardiovascular problems and a bacterial infection. UAnimals will cover the bird’s medical treatment.

UAnimals’ lawyers also filed a police report regarding animal abuse. Until a court decision is reached, the bird will be kept in a safe place.

The sale of endangered wild animals and their captivity without a special permit is prohibited. If you become aware of such cases, please contact the police. Compassion saves lives!
