People in dozens of cities around the world joined together for Earth Day as part of the EcoUnity for Ukraine campaign to remind us that our home is suffering from the ecocide that Russians have unleashed in Ukraine.
The action was organized by the UAnimals animal protection movement in partnership with the Community army of Ukraine and Klych as part of the #StopEcocideUkraine campaign.
The ecocide was discussed in 17 languages. All this is necessary to remind us that, due to the actions of Russians in Ukraine:
– 80 species of animals are on the brink of extinction;
– 20% of Ukraine’s nature reserves have been affected by the war;
– 183,000 square meters of soil are contaminated with harmful substances.
As part of this initiative, UAnimals communicate with Ukrainian and foreign politicians and also hold rallies in different parts of the world: from Warsaw to New York, from London to Prague.
The global community must hold Russia accountable for the environmental crimes committed during the war in Ukraine.
