The Pegasus shelter in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast plans to build a veterinary hospital for horses. UAnimals has launched a fundraiser to support the construction. The fundraising campaign was also endorsed by the Finnish rock band Lordi, the winners of Eurovision 2006. The members of the band reached out to their fans in a video.
Pegasus shelter is home for 26 horses, many of whom were abandoned or surrendered for slaughter by their previous owners. Majority of these horses are over 30 years old and often require medical attention. Having a veterinary hospital at the shelter will eliminate the need to transport sick animals and allow them to receive treatment on-site. The future facility is expected to accommodate four horses at a time.
UAnimals offers supporters to “buy” a square meter of the future horse hospital or donate towards a symbolic “rescue brick.” The total cost of construction is 1,833,000 hryvnias.
In addition to horses, the shelter is home to over 400 dogs, nearly 300 cats, pigs, cows, donkeys, and camels. There are also wild animals who, for various reasons, cannot survive in the wild. These include foxes, wolves, squirrels, storks, and swans. The sanctuary also houses exotic animals rescued from negligent owners. Some of the residents were evacuated from war hot spots.
In October, a fire broke out at the shelter. While no people or animals were harmed, almost all food supplies, staff housing, and part of the enclosures were destroyed. UAnimals provided assistance to the shelter by providing food and funds for rebuilding the damaged premises.
Currently, Pegasus cares for, treats, and feeds over 700 animals – all thanks to the generosity of donors. Join the fundraiser to help treat these rescued animals!
