In 2023, the UAnimals team assisted 248,000 Ukrainian animals, over 11,000 of which were located on temporarily occupied territories.
Specifically, over 15,000 animals received veterinary drugs, and 298 underwent comprehensive treatment. Additionally, over two thousand animals were evacuated from the frontline territories, including 18 birds, 8 goats and kids, 2 horses, 2 cows, a deer, a pony, a donkey, and 4 beehives with bees.
The UAnimals team also sterilized more than 29,000 cats and dogs, contributing to reducing the number of animals living on the streets, facing hunger, cold, and diseases. Furthermore, the organization aided in the reconstruction of 22 shelters and national parks.
In 2023, UAnimals’ lawyers successfully advocated for the prohibition of fireworks. The law came into effect on November 6. During the year, they filed 63 police reports and appeals to protect animal rights. Currently, 12 police reports are undergoing pre-trial investigation, two cases are in court, and four suits resulted in administrative liability for violations of dog and cat care rules. Additionally, UAnimals’ legal efforts led to confiscation of a red-listed bird from an individual who unlawfully kept it.
Besides the team, volunteers have also played a crucial role. In 2023, over 1,400 dedicated individuals joined the UAnimals volunteer community. They participated in 53 missions, including distributing food on war-affected territories, cleaning shelters, taking photographs of animals seeking adoption, and promoting information about the animal blood donation platform. Activists from UAnimals organized 30 demonstrations on six continents in support of the #StopEcocideUkraine project, raising awareness in order to hold Russia accountable for environmental crimes.
All these projects and demonstrations happened thanks to the support of people who care about the fate of Ukrainian animals. In total, in 2023, compassionate individuals donated 120 million hryvnias to UAnimals for the rescue of wild, domestic, and stray animals. They also provided non-financial assistance estimated at around 12 million hryvnias.
The UAnimals team takes pride in the trust and financial support received from 140,000 people in Ukraine and abroad. Even more people are interested in animal welfare, as 10 million people are reached monthly through social media platforms.
