UAnimals inaugurates the Humane Book award for children’s literature

In December, for the first time, the UAnimals jury will award a writer whose works contribute to instilling a humane and caring attitude towards animals and the environment in children.

Nominations for candidates are currently underway. Until November 26, anyone can register a book for participation in the competition via the link. Eligible entries must be Ukrainian-language children’s publications printed in 2022-2023, promoting humane treatment of animals and environmental awareness, authored by Ukrainian writers.

The award jury consists of:

  • Leo Busha, the boy from Irpin who inspired the entire Ukraine with his rendition of Chervona Kalyna song;
  • Ihor Koval, influencer, volunteer, and co-owner of a children’s clothing store;
  • Olesia Naumovska, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Folklore Department at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv;
  • Svitlana Royz, child and family psychologist;
  • Yulia Slyvka, publisher, philologist PhD, and blogger;
  • Liudmyla Smolyar, editor-in-chief of UAnimals.

“The UAnimals team established the Humane Book award primarily to remind people of the powerful impact of books as tools for shaping a person’s worldview and to showcase the value of children’s publications about animals or the environment in Ukraine,” explained Liudmyla Smolyar, UAnimals’ editor-in-chief.
