UAnimals calls for changes to the Metro’s policies in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, allowing the transportation of all domestic animals underground. UAnimals has submitted proposals for changes to officials in these cities.
Currently, when descending into a subway station as a shelter, people can take pets with them. However, only small animals in special cages or containers are allowed to be transported on subway trains.
In addition, entry to the subway with a guide dog is allowed. Other dogs that do not fit in carriers currently cannot be transported underground. This is stated in the rules of use of the metro for all three Ukrainian cities with subways: Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv.
If the decision to change the rules is made, owners will be required to ensure the safety of both their pets and the people around them. Those transporting animals will be required to comply with sanitary and hygienic requirements and use a leash, and dogs from the list of dangerous breeds will be required to wear a muzzle.
The organization also suggests that pet owners be able to transport them for free. Currently, only guide dog owners have this right.
UAnimals have submitted their proposals to the Minister of Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov, the mayors of Kyiv and Kharkiv Vitali Klitschko and Ihor Terekhov, as well as the heads of the Kyiv and Kharkiv subways.
Recently, it was officially allowed to take domestic animals into shelters. The UAnimals team also fought to make these changes to the policies.
Taking animals with you rather than leaving them alone is all about responsibility and care!
