This Sunday, volunteers from the UAnimals community cleaned a section of Holosiivskyi National Nature Park in Kyiv. The area, cleared of debris, is planned to be the site for a Bat Rehabilitation Center.
Twenty-five volunteers participated in the cleanup. They collected about 15 cubic meters of various household waste on a 20 by 20-meter plot, which people had been dumping there: mattresses, furniture, and even old televisions. The volunteers mowed the grass, cleaned the site with rakes, and cut down excess branches.
Bats often wake up from hibernation and fly into houses. A bat that wakes up in winter is likely to die from the cold. Therefore, it needs to be placed in conditions where it can fall asleep again until it gets warmer. The only Bat Rehabilitation Center in Ukraine is located in Kharkiv. There, specialists return bats to hibernation and provide qualified veterinary care to weakened and injured animals. Such center in Kyiv will help rescue more bats.
