UAnimals volunteers provide winter care to animals in shelters in 6 Ukrainian regions

Last Saturday, January 27, the UAnimals volunteer community was helping shelters in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zakarpattia, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Mykolaiv Oblasts. Activists chopped and stacked wood, insulated enclosures, stacked or cleared hay, and performed other winter-related tasks.

In total, 35 volunteers visited 7 centers:

  • Shelter from the NGO Animal Rescue Kharkiv
  • Vuhlyk shelter in Mykolaiv Oblast
  • Nosyky and Rifugio shelters in Kyiv Oblast
  • Planeta shelter  in Vinnytsia
  • Home of Rescued Animals in Lviv
  • Pet Care in Uzhgorod

In Rifugio, 5 volunteers, including Timofiy from UAnimals’ international department, were chopping wood. Timofiy has recently joined the community, and this was his first volunteer mission.

“Since I didn’t have a car, they coordinated me with another volunteer through the bot. The five of us found each other and went to the shelter near Hostomel town. It’s a very nice and clean shelter with a lot of domestic animals: goats, sheep, cows, horses, pigs, chickens, and geese. These animals were rescued from a slaughterhouse. The territory is very large, so I think they needed our help,” shared Timofiy. “We managed to finish in about three and a half hours. They also gave us a tour of the shelter. Everything was well-organized, and we really liked it. I hope our work was useful for the shelter.”

In some other shelters, volunteers stayed after work was done to walk the dogs. Taking care of animals is a joy, and volunteering is a state of the soul!
