Olympic champion and track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh has donated part of her prize money, which she received for her achievements at the 2024 Games in Paris, to Ukrainian animal welfare organizations.
“We are extremely grateful to Yaroslava for her kind act—thanks to it, thousands of animals will receive medicine, food, and a warm place to sleep. We are also thankful for her willingness to speak out about animal protection and draw the attention of a large audience to this issue. We dream that one day helping animals will become a common and routine practice in Ukrainian society, and voices as powerful as Yaroslava Mahuchikh’s bring us closer to that moment,” said UAnimals Communications Director Lyudmila Smolyar.
Overall, the athlete donated one million hryvnias. The funds were received by the animal rescue and environmental organization UAnimals and four animal shelters: “Pegas,” “Sumy Society for the Protection of Animals,” “Homeless World,” and “Dnipro Animals.”
“Currently, there are many stray animals in Ukraine, and shelters need support to take care of each one. Besides financial and volunteer support, you can adopt animals from verified shelters, regardless of breed. My cat is also from a shelter and is also of no specific breed, but he is the best in the world and my favorite jumper. So if you have the opportunity to save an animal—do it!” says Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
Recently, Yaroslava Mahuchikh announced on her Instagram page that she would donate part of her prize money to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a psychological support fund, and to help animals affected by the war.
