🐾 We share the new achievements of the UAnimals volunteer community

Thanks to the tireless work of our volunteers, we managed to do a lot of important things:

🐾 We distributed 713 kilograms of pet food in the Kherson, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.

🦟 We distributed 160 antiparasitic treatments for dogs and cats cared for by residents of the Kharkiv and Kherson regions.

📣 We launched three online tasks — about the Cleanup March, a fundraiser for the treatment of animals from the frontline areas, and a veterinary mission. 505 volunteers joined in spreading the information!

🌿 We held the CleanUp Day in six national parks and reserves of Ukraine. 450 people collected 31 tons of garbage and helped nature.

📸 We hosted the Photo Days in three shelters of the Kyiv and Lviv regions — 9 volunteer photographers took beautiful photos to help animals find new families faster.

🐦 In Holosiivskyi National Park, 15 volunteers hung 40 birdhouses. Now birds have new strong and comfortable nest boxes.

💊 We delivered 2,730 treatments for animals in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kherson regions.

🎨 11 volunteer designers supported the Humane Education project and helped create materials to promote humane attitudes towards animals and nature among children.

🐶 We helped evacuate two puppies from the village of Liubashivka (Odesa region) to the Gostomel Shelter.

In April, we were supported by over 990 incredible people! Together, we are strong. We thank everyone who cares about animals and nature in general 💚

🐾 In April, we enlisted the support of our partners:

🐦 With the financial support of our partner Gunia Project, we helped construct four enclosures at Myrnohrad Animals shelter. We had previously evacuated this shelter from Myrnohrad in the Donetsk region to the Kyiv region.

🎨 We launched a joint campaign with the Ukrainian cruelty-free cosmetics brand Lamel. 20% of proceeds from selected vegan products on lamel.ua will be transferred to UAnimals.

We started cooperation with the UPG chain of gas and recreation complexes. Our team has already received 2,500 liters of fuel per month for rescue missions.

We are grateful to our powerful partners that support us and help make the world more humane and save lives!

🐾 The UAnimals lawyers continue to fight for animal rights:

From April 1 to April 30, 2025, our chatbot received 49 requests for legal assistance. The lawyers have already consulted 48 applicants, and 1 application is pending.

▪️ Anastasiia Hevchuk, a UAnimals lawyer, prepared and filed a motion with the court expediting the consideration of the case on the operation of the Zviropolis petting zoo network due to the concealment of evidence and abuse of power by the environmental inspectorate. We are awaiting the court’s decision.

In March, the Zhytomyr District Administrative Court resumed proceedings in our lawsuit. In December 2024, the court had suspended the proceedings and demanded evidence of the inspection from the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine. The proceedings had been suspended until the provision of evidence.

The State Environmental Inspectorate failed to provide all the evidence requested by the court. As a result, the court imposed a fine on the inspectorate. The State Environmental Inspectorate did not provide any reasons for its failure to comply with the demands. The court fined the state body 4,542 ($108) hryvnias.

🐴 We filed a report with the police asking them to conduct an investigation and bring perpetrators to justice for the improper conditions of keeping a donkey in Sovky park in Kyiv.

⚠️ We received a lot of applications regarding animals left without care because their people were drafted or died. Our lawyers have prepared a detailed consultation that will soon appear on our website. It describes an algorithm of actions in case an animal is left without care in a closed room.

🐎 We continued to work on the case of horse cruelty in the territory of the Mountain Residence hotel and restaurant complex.

UAnimals appealed to the police regarding horse cruelty in Bukovel.

On April 2, social media users started tagging us in a video of a man beating a horse. The footage shows the animal trying to pull logs, but unable to shift them. The man repeatedly beat the animal with a stick, including on his legs.

The user who posted the video states that the incident took place near the Mountain Residence Hotel in Bukovel. Presumably, the animal is being exploited and overworked  at the construction site   near the recreation complex.

UAnimals lawyers submitted a complaint to the Main Department of the National Police in the Ivano-Frankivsk region regarding animal cruelty under Article 89 of the Code on Administrative Offences of Ukraine.

The offender can be punished with a fine of 3,400 ($81) to 5,100 ($122) hryvnias for this administrative offense.

In addition, we have sent inquiries to the police and the hotel to find out information about the animal’s location, to get an explanation as to why the horse was not seized and on the possibility of redeeming the animal.

We are awaiting the decisions and responses.

🎯 We are monitoring the case of animal cruelty at the Poliske-Sarny hunting farm in the Rivne region.

To recap, earlier we received hundreds of tags and appeals about dog fighting and dog shooting in the Rivne region. On April 14, Dyvogliad 5.UA | 5 Channel Telegram channel shared a video in which a man killed a dog, shooting the dog in the head while holding him on a leashwhile holding it on a leash. According to the Rivne media reports, the attacker organized dog fighting and shot animals in the head for fun at the Poliske-Sarny hunting farm.

📍 The police in the Rivne region had already opened criminal proceedings under Articles 299 and 300 of the Criminal Code, that is for animal cruelty and distribution of materials that promote violence.

📍 The police had already identified the suspect: according to the Rivne region police, this is a 42-year-old man who is currently in a pre-trial detention center for the previous crimes — attempted murder and kidnapping.

📍 The video of the dog being shot, as the law enforcement officers found out, dates back to 2021.

📍  UAnimals lawyers also filed a police report for cruelty. We are grateful to all sympathetic people who tagged us and shared this outrageous story.

📍 The main thing now is to bring the perpetrator to justice. Therefore, public attention to this case is still very important. We hope for a thorough pre-trial investigation and a fair trial!

📍 The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. We received a response from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine that they had forwarded the appeal to the Environmental Inspectorate.

🐾 We received a request for assistance in a case in Dnipro, where a driver deliberately ran over a dog who died as a result of being injured. Eyewitnesses turned to us for help.

We filed a complaint about the inaction of the investigator who failed to register the case in the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations. The court hearing took place on April 17 and ordered the investigator to enter information into the register and start the investigation.

⚠️ On April 24, the Kyiv Court of Appeal was supposed to hold a hearing in the case of dog abuse in the village of Chabany, as the accused had appealed the ruling of the Kyiv-Sviatoshyn District Court and the hearing had been postponed at the request of the defense to question witnesses.

To recap, on February 24, volunteer Anna reached out to UAnimals for help. She witnessed a man beating a dog with his hands and feet, and then forcibly dragging the tied animal by a chain. The dog was tortured in a private territory.

On March 14, a court hearing was held in the case of dog abuse in the village of Chabany. The Kyiv-Sviatoshyn District Court found the dog’s person guilty of committing an administrative offense, fined him 3,400 (≈$81) hryvnias and confiscated the dog.

Uanimals filed a report of animal cruelty with the police. A police officer filed an administration report under Article 89 of the Code on Administrative Offences.

Every day we face indifference, legal loopholes, and resistance.
But thanks to your support, we continue fighting for animal rights!

Because every case is a chance to change the world for the better! We continue our work and thank everyone who stays with us despite the difficulties.
