In January, UAnimals helped at least

14,563 animals

This month we:

🚚 Evacuated 179 animals from Donetsk region and 44 animals from Pidlissia.
🔅Sterilised 677 animals.
🐾 Shipped and sent 21 471 kilograms of feed for 11 973 animals.
❗️Organised an international demonstration against the Russian ecocide in Ukraine: a march in Paris gathered 150 people.
🦊Held a meeting with Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, where we agreed on joint actions with the Ministry. We will engage foreign scientists to develop a methodology for wildlife tracking.
📝Completed the call for applications for the First Ukrainian Animal Protection Award 2024 and received 1205 applications in which people nominated their favourite volunteers.
📲Launched a chatbot for help on Telegram, where we have already received 1001 registrations.
👆Fought for animal rights and participated in the development of animal protection bills. We sent three reports to the police, including one on animal cruelty and an illegal exhibition of turtles in Kamianets-Podilskyi; provided legal advice and support to requests we received in private messages; and participated in two court hearings.
💵In total, we spent UAH 6 million 757 thousand 378. This included financial assistance, payment for sterilisations, construction of insulated kennels, purchase of firewood and straw, purchase and shipment of feed, logistics, purchase of medicines and treatment of animals, evacuation from the war zone.

🐾We helped to treat animals and processed 9 applications from volunteers for UAH 102,925 and helped to treat more than 640 animals in our care: Tetiana Makarova, CO CF ANOTHER DIMENSION, Olga Kuzmenko, Iryna Shkuropat, Maria Demianenko, Svitlana Serdiukova, Inna Serheieva, Natalia Merdak, Natalia Stupak (Karas).

🔥 We made a winter purchase for shelters as part of the Winter Collection and used the money to buy:

– 5 m3 of firewood for the ” Charitable Foundation “Bez granits”;
– 550 bales of straw for the “Healthy Life” shelter;
– 35 bales of straw for the municipal enterprise “Garantia” in Kherson.

💊As part of the “Holiday Fundraising” for kids, we purchased treats, toys, and veterinary medicines for 774 baby animals:

– Community organisation “Zoosimya” shelter of Tatiana Nelga (103 kittens and 15 puppies)

📦The necessary equipment was purchased for the sterilisation and evacuation teams: 2 scanners, 2 bulletproof vests, 4 stoves and two sets of helmets, a tactical first aid kit, branded clothing, 100 chevrons, 1250 chips, 1 clipper, 3 thermal bags, 20 cat carriers, 8 “Vovk” cages.

🥫We bought 5 tonnes of extruded porridge and 5778 kilograms of cat food for the animals.

🏡We paid an additional UAH 70,650 for the manufacture of 37 heat-insulated kennels for dogs from a number of shelters.

🏠We also made a prepayment of UAH 74,737 for the manufacture of 25 heat-insulated dog kennels in the municipal enterprise “Guarantee in Kherson”, which suffered from shelling.

💉We provided financial assistance for the purchase of medicines, vaccines and food to the CO Charitable Foundation “From Heart to Tail”, which takes care of 130 cats.

🚑 We paid for the treatment of animals evacuated from the front line and military checkpoints and taken care of by the CO Charitable Foundation for Animals “Phoenix”.

📦We provided financial assistance to the Community Organisation “HUMAN RIGHTS INITIATIVE” for the purchase of firewood and meat products for 50 dogs and 75 cats.

🌞We paid for the purchase of dry and wet food for 145 cats of the CF “Kotofei”.

🦊We helped the “Bez Granits” Charitable Foundation to pay for the treatment of an injured fox.
🚑 We also sterilised 532 cats and 145 dogs in the frontline areas.

🚨We came to sterilise, treat, vaccinate and get animals chipped in the villages and towns of Sumy and Mykolaiv regions, namely Kotlyareve, Shevchenkove, Nova Odesa (Mykolaiv region), Znob-Novgorodske, Seredyna Buda, Druzhba, Yampil (Sumy region).

🚙In January, we paid UAH 347,020 for sterilisation and UAH 2,257 for the repair of a veterinary vehicle.

🐱We paid the debt for the treatment of the cat Marusya (plastic surgery of the lower lip, suturing of the wound); purchase of special food for evacuated cats from Donetsk region; holding 16 evacuated animals from Kherson and Donetsk regions, which we then transported to the Western part of Ukraine.

🐈We paid for the treatment of a kitten Phoenix, who was taken out of the war zone by volunteers from Zaporizhzhia region. The kitten received third-degree burns. Now Phoenix is in Kyiv under the care of CO CFKYIV TAILS.

🐕We paid for the final stage of rehabilitation of the dog Alisa from Orikhiv at the Centre “Step Up” and transported her to the “Babynets Animal Shelter”.

🍀We paid for the holding of the evacuated cat Kherson and the purchase of special food for the evacuated cat Prince.

💥🚐 We evacuated 179 animals from Donetsk region (one puppy died in hospital) and 44 animals from Pidlissia (another weakened dog died in hospital).

More information about the evacuation from Donetsk region:

– 27 animals: 16 puppies, 2 cats, 4 kittens, 5 dogs (Pokrovsk, Niu-York, Druzhkovka, Sloviansk, the outskirts of Bakhmut). We also took 2 dogs from a veterinary clinic in Krasnohrad, which had been evacuated from Orikhiv earlier. The animals were handed over to Viktor Vorotnikov for treatment after the evacuation.
– 100 animals from Donetsk Oblast (Toretsk, Kurakhovo, Zabalka, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Kramatorsk, Novopavlivka, Nova Ilyinka, Stepove, Myrnohrad, Sloviansk).
Among them: 15 cats, 24 kittens, 38 dogs, 23 puppies. Unfortunately, one puppy died because it was too weak.
– 24 animals from Donetsk Oblast (Kurakhovo, Dachne, Bereznyaki, Maksimilianivka, Myrnohrad, Selidovo).
– 28 animals from Donetsk region (Zalizne, Pchilkine, Kramatorsk, Shakhtarske, Lyman, Pokrovsk, Toretsk).

🐷Read more about the transportation of animals:

– We transported the dog Bulgarin from Babynets Shelter to a new family in Cherkasy region.
– We took out 17 dogs, 16 puppies and 11 goats from the shelter in Pidlissia.
– The goats were transported for rehabilitation to the Home for Rescued Animals in Lviv, and the dogs and puppies were taken to the Alden Vet clinic for examination. The animals were diagnosed with general condition, blood tests, and treated for parasites. We paid for their treatment.
– We took 1 dog in critical condition from the shelter in Pidlissia. Resuscitation was impossible. The animal died in the Realvet clinic in Brovary.

🐔We distributed 750 kilograms of feed in four frontline regions and fed approximately 330 animals in:

– Donetsk region (Shevchenko)
– Zaporizhzhia region (Preobrazhenka, Orikhiv, Gulyaypole)
– Kharkiv region (Solonitsevka, Bohodukhiv, Polkova Mykytivka)
– Kherson region (Borozenske, Velyka Oleksandrivka, Komyshany)

📷We held a Photo Day in 6 shelters in Ukraine together with 32 photographers. Thanks to these photos, the dog Snow was taken from the Kharkiv shelter to a family.

🧍🏻35 volunteers of the Community helped 7 Ukrainian shelters to keep warm: they stacked firewood, hay, insulated cages and cleaned.

🦥Our volunteers abroad also visited various shelters to learn from the experience of other countries, and we already have one video tour of a shelter in Klaipeda, Lithuania.

🦁Legal Department:

– We participated in two court hearings in criminal proceedings on animal cruelty.

– We conducted 25 oral consultations.

– We provided assistance to 38 requests in the chatbot, and 4 more in the office.

🐴We prepared such statements and appeals:

– An appeal regarding the evacuation of horses from the Atlant farm in Kharkiv region, which borders on the territory of Russia, where shelling is constantly taking place.

– An appeal to the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine regarding the planning of expanding the boundaries of the Tuzly Lagoons National Nature Park.

– We sent an appeal to the Head of the Volyn Regional State Administration regarding the program to reduce the number of stray animals in Ivanychi community of Volodymyr district, Volyn region.

– We sent a report on an administrative offense regarding the illegal exhibition of turtles in Kamianets-Podilskyi. On January 31, the court ruled that the owner must pay a fine. The animals will not be confiscated.

– We filed a complaint about animal cruelty in a shelter in Pidlissia.

– We provided legal advice and drafted a statement from the victim and the community organisation to the police and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

– We sent statements from the community organisation to the police, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine, and the State Ecological Inspectorate regarding offences on the floating islands of Supoy.

– We investigated the legality of the exhibition and use of animals in the educational process in educational institutions (at the request of citizens).

– We filed a lawyer’s request to the “Zoolux” clinic regarding the euthanasia of a cat.

– We filed a request for an expert examination (autopsy) of a dog.

– We checked the requirements for keeping dogs, the requirements for tethering, and the responsibility of the owner (preparation of a document for the editorial office).

🐙Legislative work of the Legal Department:

  1. Analysing the draft law of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the Procedure for Preparing the Annual National Report on the State of the Environment in Ukraine.
  2. Research of scientific papers on approaches to breeding pets in different countries.
  3. Research of the draft law of the Committee on Ecology on Forest Reproductive Resources No., date of registration: 9116 dated 17.03.2023, conclusion on the project.
  4. Analysis of the draft Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for the Functioning of the State Environmental Monitoring System and its Subsystems” and writing a conclusion.
  5. Participation in a meeting on the requirements for shelters, the blacklist and legislative innovations, writing a summary of ideas and theses of the meeting.
  6. Responsibility for poor animal welfare, analysis of court decisions, analysis of court statistics – writing a conclusion.
  7. Analysis of the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 07.12.2023 on the welfare of cats and dogs.
  8. Study of the draft law No. 9516 of Ukraine “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Effective Forest Management Based on Forestry on the Principles of Close-to-Nature Forestry Adapted to Climate Change and Conservation of Forest Biodiversity”.
  9. Analysis of the draft law on lobbying.
  10. Finalisation of the draft Law of Ukraine “On Registration and Identification of Pets”.
  11. A meeting with Eurogroup, which analyses our draft amendments on wildlife. Discussions with WWF and other experts.

🦋 In January, 10 applications and acts of transfer of animals were drawn up on the UAnimals legal aid page.

We were asked the following questions:

📣We also provided comments to the media on the admission of animals to shelters, information on the confiscation of animals in administrative and criminal proceedings, and on the requirements and rules for burying animals.

💶We received 500 thousand hryvnias of assistance from Landstar Agent Ukraine, and we are very grateful to them!

🎁We have received a donation of 1711 kilograms of feed from our regular partners Josera and are already sending it to the animals. Thank you!

🩸We have already sent quarantine boxes to two shelters as part of the Paw of Care project.

⭐️As part of the Holiday Fundraising Campaign, we have already sent 130 sunbeds from Priroda TM to shelters. Thank you very much!

❤️‍🩹 We bought first aid kits for three shelters for UAH 100 thousand, which were raised together with TUMO Kyiv and UA-Teens. Thanks to these medicines, animals will be better protected from unforeseen critical situations that may occur during the war.

🦔We launched a collaboration with Ukrainian actors to help the animals of the Municipal Enterprise “Garantia”.
