In May, UAnimals helped at least
13,000 animals
In May 2024:
🐴 We evacuated 194 animals, including both farm animals and pets.
🐱 We sent over 16 tons of food to animals in need.
🙌 We sterilized 287 cats and 144 dogs in frontline regions.
🔅 We provided medicine for animals in the Kharkiv region with funds from a special fundraiser.
🐶 We paid for protective shoes for the dogs of the Antares canine unit.
We won a 790,000 UAH grant from the International Renaissance Foundation for the project “Ecocide Knows No Borders! The Global Impact of War on the Environment.”
🐮 Our legal team helped protect animals by consulting on 44 cases.
💶 Overall, we spent 6,336,541 UAH on helping animals.
📌 More details about our aid efforts in May:
🐾 We sterilized 431 animals, specifically 287 cats and 144 dogs.
🐾 We organized and conducted on-site sterilization in Bilozerske, Novodonetske, Dobropillia, and Spasko-Mykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
🐾 We purchased food for animals to be evacuated and for those living with soldiers at checkpoints, spending 59,882 UAH.
🙌 As part of the major aid drive for animals in the Kharkiv region, we bought:
— Medicine for animals cared for by Dmytro Teliatnyk, spending 20,000 UAH.
— Two tons of cat and dog food costing 99,646 UAH.
— 19 carriers for Animal Rescue Kharkiv for 38,350 UAH.
— 200 rabies vaccines for Animal Rescue Kharkiv for 26,200 UAH.
— 100 Canigen vaccines for evacuated animals in Ray of Mercy in Kupiansk for 22,000 UAH.
— Treatments for animals at the Animal Rescue Kharkiv NGO for 32,000 UAH.
🐾 Using funds from a special fundraiser, we bought 32,000 UAH worth of medicine for animals in the Zoosimya home shelter.
🐕 We bought medicine for animals with chronic illnesses in the Get a Friend shelter, costing 22,730 UAH.
🐕 We purchased and delivered a wheelchair for a dog missing a leg, costing 15,339 UAH.
🫶 We delivered quarantine boxes as part of the Paw of Care project. These boxes will help animals in organizations such as Vets Without Borders, Friend, Abandoned Angel, and Animal Rescue Kharkiv.
🐮 For an elderly man evacuated with his cows, we bought a wheelchair for 1,150 UAH.
🐶 We paid for medicine for a cocker spaniel cared for by elderly displaced people.
🐾 For animals in the Zaporizhzhia sector, we bought treatments costing 17,903 UAH.
🐾 We purchased essential items for the functioning of our Lviv warehouse, costing 5,299 UAH.
🐾 As part of our collaboration with Kormotech, we delivered food and vaccines to Zoosimya, Sumy Animal Protection Society, Abandoned Angel, EcoProtection Starokostiantyniv, and Animal Rescue Kharkiv.
🐕🦺 We funded the construction of dog houses for a canine unit.
🥫 We shipped 16,235 kilograms of food for 6,576 animals.
💊 We covered the costs of temporary housing, special medications, and treatment for two cats evacuated from Kherson. One of them is Prince, a cat with chronic drooling.
💊 We funded the treatment of two dogs, Joe and Graf, evacuated from checkpoints in the Zaporizhzhia region.
💊 We ordered a wheelchair for a dog with a disability named Zhuk. Previously, we had raised funds for severely injured dogs.
🚗 We paid for the evacuation of 20 horses from Derhachi in the Kharkiv region, costing 47,000 UAH.
🚗 We evacuated 194 animals from frontline areas in the Kherson, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions.
🐶 For the dogs of the Antares canine unit, we also bought special shoes costing 123,000 UAH.
📌Achievements of our Community:
🙌 On May 1 and 2, nine volunteers of the Community cleaned the Animal Rescue Kharkiv shelter. The shelter building was damaged by explosions, so volunteers cleaned up broken glass inside and outside and communicated with the animals.
🙌 Sixty volunteers walked 100 animals in nine shelters across Ukraine.
🙌 Three volunteers from our Community helped remove heavy surplus items from the Hostomel shelter area, which were left after renovations. Thanks to the volunteers, the animals now have more space.
🙌 Volunteers participated in inspections of dolphinariums in Kharkiv, Odesa, and Truskavets, documenting the conditions of the animals.
🙌 Fifteen volunteer photographers participated in a Photo Day at five shelters across Ukraine.
🙌 Twenty-five volunteers helped care for Holosiivskyi Park in Kyiv, where a bat rehabilitation center will be established.
🙌 Volunteers joined evacuation missions, documenting evacuations on camera and personally transporting farm animals and pets from the Sumy region.
🙌 Three volunteers opened supplementary fundraising accounts for the Pegasus horses and already transferred 22,000 UAH.
🤗 We received 50,000 UAH as part of the Fluffy Donation campaign from MasterZoo.
🤗 We won a 790,000 UAH grant from the International Renaissance Foundation for the project “Ecocide Knows No Borders! The Global Impact of War on the Environment.”
🤗 We won an 88,000 UAH grant from ISAR Ednannia. The funds will be used for institutional development.
🤗 We applied for a grant to organize the Cleanup March on World Animal Day.
🤗 We agreed on collaborations with VISEVEN, the ShchasSpasu Center, and Old Lion Publishing House.
🤗 We joined the bonus program of Hotline.ua.
🤗 We are preparing to launch the Paw of Care campaign once again.
🤗 We are working on a collaboration with the Todli store.
📌 Our UAnimals lawyers have done a lot of valuable work:
🔅 They helped protect animals by consulting on 44 cases.
🔅 They filed a complaint with Police Station No. 1 of the Zviahel District Police Department in the Zhytomyr region to check the legality of the decision of the local police officer and filed another complaint with the Zviahel District Prosecutor’s Office.
🔅 They submitted two applications regarding administrative offenses related to animal care violations and one criminal offense report.
🔅 They engaged in legislative work:
· Conducting analyses and providing conclusions for new projects;
· Working on two new legislative bills.
🔅 They met with the Department of Transport Infrastructure and the Metro to discuss changes to the rules for transporting animals in the subway.
🔅 They participated in a working meeting regarding the ECO letter for territorial communities.
🔅 They appeared on Suspilne Studio to discuss Kharkiv City Council’s decisions on pet regulations.
🔅 They met with the Silpo supermarket chain to discuss necessary changes to allow animals in public places, such as using special carts for pets.
🔅 They commented to Suspilne Zaporizhzhia journalists about our appeal regarding the use of red-listed animals in the Zaporizhzhia circus.
🔅 They spoke on Ukrainian Radio Cherkasy about issues of animal cruelty.
🔅 They sent appeals to the Zaporizhzhia circus and the Ministry of Culture regarding the illegal use of red-listed animals in circuses.
🔅 They provided information on inspections conducted in NEMO dolphinariums and requested reports on the results of these inspections.
🔅 The inter-factional parliamentary association Humane Country prepared an appeal concerning the proper maintenance of animals in the Disney zoo.
🐾 They inspected the living conditions of animals in 18 shelters in the Odesa, Kyiv, Mykolaiv regions, and Kryvyi Rih.
