In October, UAnimals Helped at Least

8,000 Animals

🐾Shipped nearly 7 tons of food to dogs and cats and more than 2 tons of hay to horses. Helped to treat 35 evacuated animals from the Donetsk region.

🐶Helped to treat 50 animals.

🐑Evacuated 321 animals from the frontline areas. Among them were 38 domestic and 4 wild animals. 

🐛45 awesome volunteers walked animals in 7 shelters. Animals were brushed in 9 shelters. 46 volunteers joined in.

💊💉Went on a Veterinary Mission in the Zaporizhzhia region and helped 260 animals there.

📢Together with the Center for Civil Liberties, organized a rally and demanded better bomb shelters for people and animals.

🐾Organized a rally and press conference about bomb shelter inspections in partnership with the Center for Civil Liberties.

🐾Organized walks for animals in 7 shelters across 5 regions of Ukraine, with 45 volunteers joining.

🐾The volunteers of the core group helped in 3 projects:

  • Organized firewood for the Hostomel shelter (3 volunteers).
  • Helped organize the March in Warsaw (3 volunteers).
  • Transported a cat from the Zoopatrol shelter to a veterinary clinic in Kyiv for treatment (1 volunteer).

🐾Groomed and cleaned animals in 9 shelters across 5 regions of Ukraine, with 46 volunteers participating.

🐾Launched 5 online tasks in the community to disseminate information about various fundraisers, etc. In total, we received 553 “Yes” responses to help spread the word.

🐾Volunteers opened 21 friendly fundraising accounts to collect money for veterinary first aid kits.

🐾We distributed 1,100 kilograms of feed and 342 units of antiparasitic treatments to residents of the frontline regions who take care of animals. A total of six distributions took place in nine villages in the Kharkiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Mykolaiv regions.

🐾Delivered 6,917 kilograms of food for 1,422 dogs and cats, 2,046 kilograms of hay for horses, and veterinary medicines for border guard dogs.

💉Treated 35 evacuated animals from the Donetsk region:

🐾Conducted a blood chemistry test, a babesiosis and heartworm test, and castrated Michael, a husky evacuated from Kurakhove. After the veterinary clinic, the dog was handed over to Hanna Selina in Ternivka, who found him a new family.

🐾Inpatient care, treatment, vaccination, biochemical blood test, babesiosis and dirofilariasis tests, general diagnostics, echocardiography, and ultrasound diagnostics for Alabai Hayechka and three newborn puppies evacuated from Kurakhove. After the clinic, the mother and her puppies were transferred to Tetiana Nelha in Pavlysh.

🐾Inpatient care, anti-parasite treatment, and vaccination for Hector, Rudyi, and Marks from Kurakhivka. After the clinic, all the dogs were handed over to their owner in the Vinnytsia region.

🐾Inpatient care, anti-parasite treatment, and vaccination for Jessie, a dog evacuated from Kurakhove. After the clinic, the dog was handed over to the Mala Dzyha shelter.

🐾Inpatient care, anti-parasite treatment, and vaccination for Dick, a dog evacuated from the village of Zvirove (Selydiv community). After the clinic, he was handed over to his owners in the Khmelnytskyi region.

🐾Inpatient care and anti-parasite treatment for Dick, a shepherd dog evacuated from Myrnohrad. After the clinic, he was handed over to his owners in the Vinnytsia region.

🐾Inpatient care for Domiy, a dog evacuated from Pokrovsk. His owners came to pick him up from the clinic.

🐾Inpatient care, ear canal sanitation, antibiotics, antibacterial treatment, and administration of corticosteroids for systemic use for Dora, an Alabai evacuated from Pokrovsk (the dog had severe ear inflammation and dehydration). After treatment, the dog was handed over to the owner’s relatives in the Vinnytsia region.

🐾Inpatient care, anti-parasite treatment, and vaccination for Linda, a dog evacuated from Pokrovsk. After the clinic, the dog was handed over to a new family in the Poltava region.

🐾Inpatient treatment and anti-parasite treatment for Luna, a Labrador evacuated from Kurakhove. The owner picked up the dog at the clinic.

🐾Inpatient care for Plyamka, a cat evacuated from Pokrovsk. After the clinic, the cat was handed over to her owners in the Cherkasy region.

🐾Inpatient care, ectoparasite treatment, and a veterinary passport for Buddy from Pokrovsk. He was discharged and handed over to the Society for the Protection of Animals in Sumy.

🐾Sterilization, vaccination, suture treatment, ectoparasite treatment for Naida, a dog from Selydove. After the clinic, the dog was handed over to a new family in the Rivne region.

🐾Surgery, inpatient care, vaccination, and a veterinary passport for Melissa, a dog evacuated from Selidove. After the clinic, she was handed over to a new family in Uman.

🐾Tail surgery, hospitalization, suture treatment and ectoparasite treatment, a course of antibiotics and sedatives for Tina, a dog from Novoekonomichne. After the clinic, the dog was transferred to the Pegasus shelter in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

🐾Inpatient care for three kittens evacuated from Rodynske. After the clinic, they were handed over to a soldier’s relatives in Hoshcha, Rivne region.

🐾Inpatient care, parasite treatment, and vaccination for Marquis, a cat evacuated from Bilytske. After the clinic, the cat was transferred to Boryspil under the care of Tetiana Kutsukon (he found a new family).

🐾 Vaccination, veterinary passports, ectoparasite treatment, and inpatient care for Johna, Dzhyna, and Jack from Pokrovsk. After treatment, they were transferred to the relatives of soldiers in Vinnytsia.

🐾Echocardiography, comprehensive blood tests, ultrasound diagnostics, and sterilization for the dog Berta from Selydove. She was handed over to volunteer Svitlana Viktorivna in Tarasivka, Kyiv region.

🐾Echocardiography, ultrasound diagnostics, and sterilization for the cat Bahira, evacuated from Hirnyk. She is currently staying in the clinic.

🐾Hospitalization, comprehensive blood tests, microchipping, vaccination, and sedatives for Doberman Graf, evacuated from the Pokrovsk direction at the request of soldiers. For now, he remains in the clinic.

🐾Inpatient care, vaccination, ectoparasite treatment, and castration for Alabai Bim, evacuated from the Pokrovsk direction at the request of soldiers. He is currently in the clinic and will be transferred to the Forsaken Angel shelter in Khmelnytskyi after completing treatment.

🐾Inpatient care, vaccination, tests for dirofilariasis, hemoplasmosis, babesiosis, extensive clinical blood analysis, and antiparasitic treatments for two dogs from Kurakhove, now named Romeo and Juliet. They remain in the clinic.

🐾Comprehensive blood tests, echocardiogram, castration, oxygen therapy, adrenaline, injections, abdominal ultrasound, autopsy, and cremation for the dog Sultan from Selydove.

Before the castration surgery, Sultan underwent all necessary tests, including heart tests, and no contraindications were found. However, after the operation, his temperature spiked, and he passed away an hour later in the hands of veterinarians. We asked for an autopsy to determine the cause. Veterinarians found dormant parvoviral enteritis, which was activated by the surgery due to low immunity. Sadly, the doctors could not save him.

🐾Inpatient care, antiseptic and disinfectant treatments, injections, clinical and biochemical blood tests, antimicrobials, and tests for babesiosis, dirofilariasis, and hemoplasmosis for the shepherd Hera evacuated from Hirnyk.

Hera was rescued from Hirnyk with severe back wounds. The Kharkiv rescue service transported her at our request. We picked her up in Kyiv and transferred her to a veterinary clinic. The animal’s condition was poor. The examination and tests confirmed the plague. The dog could not get up on his paws, did not eat, and was very weak. Doctors said there was no hope. A decision was made to euthanize the dog.

🐾Purchased and delivered 20 vaccines to the Zoosimya charitable organization for evacuated cats and kittens from the Donetsk region.

🐾Evacuated 56 animals from Selydove, Bilytske, Hnativka, Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Serhiyivka, Myrnohrad, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, and Kurakhove in the Donetsk region.

🐾Transported:

  • Two dogs from Kyiv to Ternivka into a new family (previously evacuated Hrom and Mike from Myrnohrad and Kurakhove).
  • Two dogs from Dnipro to the Kyiv region and Rivne.

🐾Evacuated 141 animals from Selydove, Pokrovsk, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Kurakhove, Sribne, Serhiyivka, Bilytske, Shevchenko, Kramatorsk, Hryshyne, Berestka, and Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region.

🐾On these trips, we also transported three cats and four dogs.

🐾In another trip, evacuated 68 animals from Pokrovsk, Shevchenko, Vyshneve, Selydove, Kramatorsk, Kurakhove, Novoekonomichne, and Bilytske in the Donetsk region. 

🐾During yet another trip, evacuated 53 animals, including 3 cows, 1 bull, 2 female goats, 1 male goat, 1 cat, and 45 dogs from the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, along with two additional dogs.

🐾Collaborated with Natalia Popova to evacuate two lions and one bear from Bilytske, Donetsk region, to the Wild Animals Rescue Center.

🐾Provided financial support for the treatment of the cat Ryzhyk, who underwent amputation of a front leg.

🐾Covered treatment expenses for Bobik from the Vasylivskyi district of the Zaporizhzhia region, injured when a missile strike destroyed his home, leaving him with an open fracture of a hind leg.

🐾As part of a fundraiser to pay for the treatment of Ryzhyk, a cat who suffered from a guided missile strike in Zaporizhzhia, we transferred money to pay for his treatment.

🐾Transferred funds for constructing three enclosures for a temporary animal hub. 

🐶UAnimals’ legal team handled 51 inquiries through their chatbot, providing consultations. Most cases were from Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, typically concerning poor conditions in zoos, cafes, and entertainment venues.

🐾Filed reports of administrative and criminal offenses: 

  • Regarding a criminal offense, specifically the case where a man driving a car shot and killed two dogs.
  • Regarding a criminal offense involving cruelty to animals and intentional destruction of someone else’s property by arson, which caused significant damages, with corresponding appeals sent to the Head of the Regional Military Administration and the Chief of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zaporizhzhia region.
  • Regarding a criminal offense of cruelty to animals and violations of veterinary and sanitary norms, with relevant appeals submitted to the State Environmental Inspectorate and the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
  • Regarding an administrative offense under Article 89 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses concerning cruelty to animals and the failure of parents or guardians to fulfill their responsibilities in raising children.

Appealed to local authorities:

  • Filed a complaint to the Police Chief of the Lviv region and the Head of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office regarding inaction by law enforcement and requested the temporary removal of an animal under Part 5 of Article 168 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
  • Submitted a complaint to the Balakliya District Court in the Kharkiv region regarding the investigator’s inaction in failing to enter information about a criminal offense into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations.
  • Sent a deputy’s inquiry concerning the inaction of the Berdychiv Police Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region in a case involving the poisoning of dogs in Berdychiv.
  • Contacted the Kopytsia Sina eco-farm with a request to cancel an animal giveaway and ensure proper conditions for the animal’s care in accordance with the law.

🐾The lawyers also analyzed:

  • The bill of Ukraine “On Climate Security.”
  • The draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Organizing and Conducting Public Hearings in the Process of Issuing an Integrated Environmental Permit (and its Amendments).”
  • The draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Holding a Coordination Meeting in the Process of Issuing an Integrated Environmental Permit (its Amendments) and in the Administrative Procedure for Revoking it, and Requirements for the Form and Content of the Coordination Meeting Protocol.”
  • The draft order “On Approval of the Procedure for Creating Regional Environmental Monitoring Centers and the Model Regulation on Regional Environmental Monitoring Centers.”
  • The bill amending certain legislative acts on the restoration of degraded lands, promotion of growing energy crops, and production of alternative biofuels (No. 12058, dated September 24, 2024).

🐾​​​Appealed to government authorities

  • Submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Environmental Protection regarding the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Organizing and Conducting Public Hearings in the Process of Issuing an Integrated Environmental Permit (and its Amendments).”
  • Submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Environmental Protection regarding the draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On Approval of the Procedure for Holding a Coordination Meeting in the Process of Issuing an Integrated Environmental Permit (its Amendments) and in the Administrative Procedure for Revoking it, and Requirements for the Form and Content of the Coordination Meeting Minutes.”
  • Submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Environmental Protection concerning the draft order “On Approval of the Procedure for Creating Regional Environmental Monitoring Centers and the Model Regulation on Regional Environmental Monitoring Centers.”

Regarding the court case with the Zaporizhzhia State Circus:

  • Prepared and submitted an attorney request to the circus to obtain information and documents about the brown bear(s) used in performances, specifically regarding ownership, permits for keeping and special use, housing conditions, and documentation authorizing the use of the bear(s) in shows.
  • Researched legal precedents on the commercial use of endangered wildlife listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine to establish a legal position.
  • Studied a ruling of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court in a similar case.
  • Drafted a statement of claim.
