A crunchy fundraiser for a winter hay supply for rescued animals at four shelters

The cold season is getting closer, which means shelters caring for farm animals need to start stocking up on hay. Goats, horses, cows, and other animals need it every day, and during the colder months, having enough hay in stock becomes especially important. 

That is why we are asking you to support our fundraiser to stock up on food for four shelters:

🌾 Pegasus — Dnipropetrovsk region;
🌾Animal House Rescue — Poltava region;
🌾New World — Mykolaiv region;
🌾Myrolad — Vinnytsia region.

We want to purchase 4,600 bales of fresh hay, which is a staple of the daily diet of horses, cows, goats, ponies, and donkeys living at these shelters. Together, we can provide food for more than 190 animals. To make this possible, we need to raise UAH 679,000 (≈$15,200).

At these shelters, farm animals are not treated as livestock or as a resource. They spend plenty of time outdoors and grazing, each has their own personality, and there are people who know them by name and care for them every day. And, of course, they eat a lot 🙂

In summer, pastures provide part of their diet, but once the cold season begins, having enough hay in stock becomes especially important. The shelters cannot afford to purchase such a large amount on their own — winter already comes with many additional expenses.

One of the animals we want to stock up on hay for is Ponchyk, a 15-year-old pony from Pegasus shelter. When his caregiver became seriously ill, he took Ponchyk to a market in Dnipro and intended to sell him for meat. The shelter team found out, came to the market, and bought Ponchyk to save him. Because of problems with his legs, the pony still needs regular treatment, but now he lives surrounded by care and love.

Pegasus is also home to Yasha the camel. He was rescued from a petting zoo, where he had become extremely thin, sick, and exhausted. Yasha needed lengthy treatment and still requires veterinary care from time to time. But today, he is doing well — and he loves visitors and treats.

Please support the fundraiser with any amount that feels comfortable for you. Good nutrition directly affects the animals’ immunity, strength, activity levels, as well as the condition of their coats and hooves. After everything these animals have been through, we want to make sure their feeders stay full throughout the cold season.
