Fundraiser for a mobile veterinary unit for Mini Shelter — Dobre Serce

Mini Shelter — Dobre Serce is home to 380 animals, and new animals arrive regularly, including those evacuated from the frontline cities and villages. These are often cats and dogs with serious health conditions: injured from shellings, suffering from infections, fractures, or other illnesses. Even those already living at the shelter also get sick and injured. In all such cases, veterinary care must be provided quickly. There is no separate space for this at the shelter.

That is why we are raising UAH 300,000 (≈$7,000) for a veterinary trailer equipped with an inpatient ward and a small surgery room, as well as for its basic amenities, such as a stove, electric convectors, and a sink.

This will be a separate 7×2.5-meter space divided into two rooms: one for examinations and procedures, and one for inpatient care. Here, animals can be immediately examined, vaccinated, treated, spayed or neutered, or undergo other surgeries if necessary, and then kept there apart from healthy animals for some time so they can recover faster and more safely.

Here are some stories of animals that are brought to Mini Shelter — Dobre Serce.

A volunteer had been feeding the dog named Bodya on the street, but then the animal vanished for a week and returned missing a paw. The woman then contacted the shelter for help, since she couldn’t just leave him on the street in that condition. The volunteer didn’t know what exactly had happened to Bodya. The dog was exhausted and couldn’t eat enough. There were bones and debris in his mouth and throat. At the vet clinic, it turned out that the paw couldn’t be saved because the tissue had already died. The vets treated the wound and prescribed medication.

Another dog named Tobik had been living on the streets, and when he was found, he was exhausted, dehydrated, barely able to stand on his legs, and hardly eating. Tobik spent several days in quarantine at the shelter, but his condition did not improve, so he was taken to the hospital. Examinations revealed a severe inflammatory process in his body. Tobik is currently being treated at the shelter. Despite his weakness, he is a very gentle and trusting dog, according to shelter staff.

This is why a separate veterinary space is so important, so that animals can get help right away and in safe conditions.
