Fundraiser for Preparing Give a Chance Shelter in Sloviansk for Cold Weather and Supply Disruptions

Help prepare a shelter that is home to 550 animals for winter, and stock up on everything needed in case of supply disruptions.

We are raising UAH 451,652 (≈$10,113) for food, veterinary medications, equipment, and fire safety supplies for the shelter operating in Donetsk region.

Sloviansk is regularly attacked with guided aerial bombs, missiles, and drones. The attacks have damaged infrastructure, and bringing in food, medicine, and other essential items is becoming increasingly difficult.

Give a Chance shelter is currently caring for 300 dogs and 250 cats. It is impossible to evacuate that many animals right now.

With the money from the fundraiser, we will buy and deliver:

• dry and wet food for dogs and cats;
• a mobile kitchen for cooking porridge;
• a refrigerator for storing vaccines and medicines;
• a freezer for food;
• plastic barrels for stockpiles of drinking water and grains;
• anti-parasite treatments;
• cages for temporary housing and transportation of animals;
• fire extinguishers and stands for them.

This assistance will enable the shelter to continue operating: to feed and treat the animals, properly store food and medicines, and have a stock of necessities in case delivery becomes more difficult.

Some of the dogs and cats were rescued after shelling, while others were handed over by soldiers and local residents. Among them are animals that constantly need treatment and special nutrition.

One of the shelter’s residents is a dog named Tymoshka. A russian missile hit the house where he lived. Almost all the animals died — cats, dogs, and parrots. Only Tymoshka and a dog named Palma survived. After the explosion, Tymoshka suffered a concussion, experienced severe stress, and lost a lot of weight. Now he is being cared for at the shelter.

Another dog, named Bai, was brought to the shelter by soldiers this summer. He was emaciated due to heart failure. Now Bai takes medication every day and is fed special food. The dog is gradually recovering. He has already gained weight and become stronger.

The 550 animals in Sloviansk depend every day on people who stay by their side despite the shelling and all the difficulties.
