Fundraiser for rescued baby squirrels under the care of the Kyiv animal rescue group (KARG)

Since spring 2024, the Kyiv Animal Rescue Group (KARG) has saved 15 baby squirrels. Some of them suffered from fires, while others were victims of accidents.

To help these little ones return to their natural habitat, they need to be prepared for it and not tamed, but rather taught to be wild.

To achieve this, KARG will build a special large enclosure where the baby squirrels will stay from the moment they can feed themselves. In the enclosure, they will have minimal contact with humans, learn to find food on their own, compete with others, and hide from threats. This is a common scientific practice followed by behavioral experts for rescuing wild animals.

The enclosure will cover an area of 15 square meters and will be 2.5 meters high. It will include prepared burrow sites, fragments of trees with hollows, and natural materials for building and arranging nests. Additionally, the animals will be given food in different places each time, so they learn to find it and make reserves.

When the animals are ready to live independently in the wild, they will be released as close as possible to the rescue location.
