Fundraiser for the Tests for Parasitic Diseases, Bacterial and Viral Infections
ABOUT THIS FUNDRAISER
We aim to raise money to buy rapid tests to identify infections and parasitic diseases for three shelters.
Every day shelters take in dozens of animals from the frontline areas. Street cats and dogs are usually neglected, weak, and sick. Often they carry dangerous viruses, bacterial infections, and dangerous parasites.
Detecting the disease in the early stages will save the life of the animal that came to the shelter, as well as protect all residents from the epidemic, because the sick animal will be isolated and treated in time.
We plan to purchase the tests and send them to Kotochata and Myrnohrad Animals shelters in the Kyiv region and Pegasus in the Dnipro region.
Thanks to these tests, the shelters will be able to diagnose:
- Babesiosis (or piroplasmosis) is a parasitic disease caused by a parasite, typically a Babesia or Theileria. The disease is caused by the bite of an infected tick. Although the disease is not transmitted between animals, it can be fatal for puppies, kittens, and immunocompromised animals.
- Heartworm disease is a disease mainly caused by a parasitic worm called Dirofilaria immitis, which is transmitted through the bites of infected mosquitoes. The disease is dangerous for cats and dogs, as parasites live in the heart or pulmonary arteries that can cause heart failure, lung damage, and death.
- Feline panleukopenia (also called feline distemper) is a contagious viral disease caused by the feline panleukopenia virus that can cause an epidemic in a shelter. In kittens, the disease can lead to death in just a few days.
- Canine distemper is a highly contagious viral disease that affects the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems of dogs. It causes severe damage to the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, paralysis, and death. All dogs can get the disease, but it is especially dangerous for puppies and dogs with weakened immune systems.
- Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease with a mortality rate of up to 90%.
- Anaplasmosis is a bacterial disease that spreads through the bites of infected ticks. It is dangerous for the weakened immune system of cats and dogs.
- Ehrlichiosis is a bacterial disease transmitted by tick bites. Although the disease is not transmitted between animals, the animal can die without treatment.
- Lyme Borreliosis (Lyme disease) is a bacterial disease transmitted by infected ticks. It can cause fever, joint pain, loss of appetite, and chronic kidney or heart problems.
These tests are expensive, and shelters cannot provide the required number on their own, so we want to help. Please join the fundraiser, as your donations will help save many lives.
