Every day, cats and dogs arrive at shelters exhausted, sick, or injured. To save them, the most basic things are needed: medical care and proper isolation. But most shelters simply don’t have the facilities to provide this.

That’s why we’re raising 253,000 UAH (≈ $6,016) for Liha Zakhystu Tvaryn Shans Shelter to purchase a mobile veterinary trailer—a dedicated space that will serve both as a veterinary office and a quarantine zone.

Here, newly arrived or sick animals will receive essential care: examinations, vaccinations, treatment, and surgeries if needed. They’ll then recover safely in quarantine, away from common areas and other animals. This will help prevent the spread of disease and give each animal the best chance at recovery.

Liha Zakhystu Tvaryn Shans Shelter currently cares for 182 dogs and 95 cats—rescued from war zones, human cruelty, or life on the streets. This new veterinary trailer will help them, along with the many new animals arriving at the shelter each day. Here are just a few of their stories:

When little Mriya was rescued from the street, she had a large abscess on her neck. She underwent surgery, received IV fluids, and began treatment for calicivirus while recovering from severe dehydration.

Throughout her recovery, Mriya lived in a large carrier placed inside a storage room—there was no other option. Without a dedicated quarantine space, the risk of infecting other animals is too high.

This kitten was found near Pokrovsk in Donetsk region by a soldier serving on the frontline. The soldier tried to treat the kitten herself but couldn’t manage it alone.

Life at the front leaves little time for medical care—even something as simple as applying eye drops was difficult. So she reached out to Liha Zakhystu Tvaryn Shans Shelter for help.

Now, this fragile kitten is in the shelter, needing specialized care and the safe conditions required for recovery.

Why is the mobile veterinary trailer so important?
It will:

  • Prevent the spread of infections, diseases, and parasites. Sick animals will be treated in isolation, keeping the rest of the shelter safe.
  • Provide comfortable conditions for both animals and staff. The shelter will have a fully equipped space for medical care, reducing the need for stressful and expensive trips to external clinics.
  • Help animals adapt to new surroundings. Many rescued cats and dogs come from war zones or the streets and have lived in constant fear. A quiet, separate space will help them adjust more easily.
  • Stay mobile and flexible. The trailer is fully portable—it can be dismantled, transported, and reassembled if the shelter ever needs to relocate. This makes it a long-term, resource-efficient solution.

What will the trailer include?

The trailer will be a fully insulated space with:

  • Insulated floors, walls, and roof
Proper lighting, electricity, ventilation, and air conditioning
  • An operating table and quarantine enclosures
  • All necessary equipment for treatment, surgery, and post-operative care

In April this year, a similar trailer was set up for Save a Life Shelter in Khmelnytskyi. It has already saved countless animals, giving them a chance at recovery—and life. Here’s what it looks like:

Now, we want to help another shelter — and we need your support!
