Evacuations, medical treatment, veterinary missions, animal food, and support for shelters — in August, UAnimals allocated more than 4.2 million hryvnias to help animals.
Throughout the month, the UAnimals team, together with volunteers, rescued animals from dangerous areas, transported them to clinics, shelters, and foster homes, treated them, spayed and neutered them, provided food, and supported shelters.
In August, we spent 4,280,728 hryvnias and 36 kopecks on helping animals. Part of this money went toward rescuing animals from frontline areas. Over the course of the month, we managed to evacuate 308 animals. Among them were dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, a pig, geese, ducks, chickens, a raccoon, and a guinea pig. Another 95 previously evacuated animals were transported from clinics and temporary holding facilities to shelters and foster families.
The rest of the aid consisted of veterinary missions and medical treatment. For example, during a five-day mission in Sharivka, Kharkiv Oblast, we helped 375 animals, and in Peremoha, another 286. The animals were spayed or neutered, vaccinated against rabies, microchipped, treated for parasites, and given medical care. In total, in August, we paid for treatment and provided medication for 1,690 animals.
Among them were animals that had survived russian shelling. Dana, for example, suffered severe injuries after a russian aerial bomb struck her caregivers’ home in the Kharkiv region. Dika was found by soldiers, burned and injured, in the yard of a house after shelling in the Zaporizhzhia region. Nika was evacuated from Kramatorsk with a large wound on her neck. We also covered the costs of their treatment—hospitalization, surgeries, examinations, medications, and care — in August.
We also delivered nearly 8 metric tons of pet food over the course of the month to shelters, volunteers, and military personnel caring for animals near the combat zone. We also provided assistance to shelters with reconstruction and refurbishment efforts, which improved living conditions for over 4,000 animals.
These are just some of the stories from our August report. Behind every number is a specific animal that needed food, evacuation, surgery, medication, or a safe place.
